Alan Thicke’s Reality Sitcom ‘Unusually Thicke’ to Air in Tribute to the Late Actor

In remembrance of the beloved actor and family man who passed away earlier this week, Pop TV will air Alan Thicke’s reality sitcom Unusually Thicke daily from Dec. 19 through 23.

© Andrew Chin/Getty Images The 69-year-old Growing Pains patriarch was confirmed dead on Tuesday. According to reports, Thicke suffered a heart attack while playing hockey with his son and was taken to a Los Angeles-area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

After seven seasons as Dr. Jason Seaver on Growing Pains, Thicke had some practice in televised parenting and later took his talents to his own comedic reality show, Unusually Thicke. The sitcom featured Thicke’s wife Tanya, and his three sons – teenager Carter, singer Robin, and owner of a marijuana dispensary, Brennan. Unsurprisingly, there was plenty fodder for entertainment as cameras followed the dramatic daily happenings of the Canadian actor’s real-life family.

“We are deeply saddened to hear of Alan’s passing,” said Brad Schwartz, president of Pop TV in a statement. “He was a part of our Pop family and was a tremendous talent. He was also for all who knew him, an amazing father and a true gentleman. We had the privilege to work with America’s Favorite Dad and his loss is one that is deeply felt.”

Unusually Thicke airs Monday, Dec.19 through Friday, Dec. 23 at 9:30 a.m. E.T. and 10 a.m. ET. Full episodes are available here.

Alan Thicke Through the Years

Alan Thicke died Tuesday at the age of 69. The late actor, who was born in Ontario on March 1, 1947, kicked off his acting career in his 20s, landing early roles in TV movies and one-off episodes. He rose to fame years later, joining Growing Pains as Dr. Jason Seaver in 1985. He held the role of the family man for seven years, going on to appear in Hope & Gloria, Carolina, Raising Helen, The Bold and the Beautiful, and How I Met Your Mother. Thicke earned Emmy nominations for his writing work on The Barry Manilow Special and America 2-Night in the ’70s, and landed a Golden Globe nomination for Growing Pains in the ’80s.
