Prime Video has released many popular original TV shows, but these four underrated series deserve much more recognition than they get. While they weren’t one of the original streaming services, Prime Video has established itself as a great source of original content.

Many of their most-praised TV shows are perfect from start to finish, which is an impressive feat. They have particularly great crime and comedy movies and TV shows. However, there are still series that fly under the radar.

These four TV shows have everything it takes to be great, but many people don’t even know that they exist. If you’re looking to watch something new on Prime Video, consider checking out these underrated masterpieces.

    Étoile

Perfect For Fans Of Gilmore Girls & Bunheads

Dancers practice in stage in colorful costumes in Etoile season 1

Amy Sherman-Palladino is the brilliant mind behind Gilmore Girls and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. She has proven herself capable of creating brilliant storylines and characters, and she does this again in Prime Video’s Étoile. The first two episodes are slow buildup, but from that point forward, it’s fantastic. As such, it’s a shock that Étoile went completely under the radar.

The show follows two ballet companies who are struggling to stay open. As a desperate ploy to get more audience members, they decide to exchange their top talent for one year to revitalize their shows. The brilliant but eccentric choreographer Tobias and ballerina Misha are sent to Paris. Meanwhile, the difficult ballerina Cheyenne goes to NYC.

Anybody who loves ballet needs to watch Étoile. It offers insight into the competitive world of dance and how hard everyone works to bring a ballet show to the stage. On top of that, it has the cozy feel of Gilmore Girls and plenty of witty banter for people who might not otherwise watch a ballet TV show.

    The Devil’s Hour

Perfect For Fans Of Dark, Bodies, & Orphan Black

Lucy (Jessica Raine) staring at Gideon (Peter Capaldi) through a window in The Devil's Hour.

The British thriller The Devil’s Hour is a highly underrated TV show. Based on the critic scores and audience reviews, people who have watched The Devil’s Hour mostly love it. However, that doesn’t change the fact that it’s rarely discussed and a large portion of its target audience don’t even know that it exists.

The show follows is hard to describe without spoiling the twists, so I’m going to keep descriptions pretty vague. However, the basic premise is that a woman named Lucy wakes up every single night at 3:33 am, right in the middle of the devil’s hour (which goes from 3 to 4).

Every night she has horrible visions and feels deja vu, making her question her sanity. Her life soon gets tangled up with that of a killer named Gideon, played by Peter Capaldi. This show is an absolute mind-bender and one of the most fascinating TV shows out there, so it’s shocking that it doesn’t get more appreciation.

Luckily, for those who do enjoy the show, The Devil’s Hour has already been picked up for season 3. The filming for the third season has wrapped, so it’s just a matter of time before we find out the premiere date.

    Dead Ringers

Perfect For Fans Of Dexter, Hannibal, & Malignant

Actor Rachel Weisz stars in Dead Ringers, a psychological thriller that blends body horror and medical drama. Rather than playing one character, she does double the work, playing twin gynecologists named Elliot and Beverly Mantle, who have opposite personalities. Weisz absolutely knocks it out of the park, which is hard to do when half of her scenes are acting against herself.

That alone should have been enough to give Dead Ringers far more appreciation than it has received. However, the premise is also interesting enough to garner appreciation. The story follows twin gynecologists who are determined to revolutionize reproduction and childbirth. However, their methods quickly become much darker and morally gray.

If this sounds familiar, it’s because it’s a remake of David Cronenberg’s movie of the same name. However, the show takes a very different approach to the story because it’s created, written, and produced by women, and Eliot and Beverly are women rather than men.

This offers a different perspective on the same basic story, allowing the show to delve deeper into themes lightly touched on in the original. Plus, there are some surprising and satisfying changes that will make it feel fresh for those who enjoyed the Cronenberg original movie.

    Vox Machina

Perfect For Fans Of The Dragon Prince, Avatar: The Last Airbender, & Arcane

Vox Machina is a DnD show with incredible animation and hilarious characters. The story, based on the first campaign of the Critical Role webseries, follows a band of eight unlikely heroes who team up to save the realm of Exandria from dark forces.

Dungeons & Dragons fans might be surprised to see Vox Machina on this list. After all, it’s extremely popular within its niche. However, the show is vastly underrated when comparing it to similar TV shows and movies.

Arcane is an adult animated TV show based on League of Legends much in the same way that Vox Machina is an adult animated TV show based on Dungeons & Dragons. However, Arcane is a critically acclaimed household name, while Vox Machina doesn’t have mainstream popularity.

Similarly, the Dungeons and Dragons-inspired movie Honor Among Thieves and TV show Delicious in Dungeon have widespread popularity with people who are unfamiliar with the franchise, yet Vox Machina doesn’t. Hopefully, Prime Video’s show The Mighty Nein, which adapts the second Critical Role campaign, will find much more success.

The Mighty Nein debuts on November 19, 2025.
