Warning! This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Mayor of Kingstown Season 4, Episode 4.
Mayor of Kingstown season 4 has been following the decline of Mike McLusky’s power in Kingstown, and things are getting dramatically worse as of episode 4. While Kingstown has always been a battleground, there used to be some sense of order, largely thanks to the presence of the Mayor.
The Mayor is an unelected official who operates between the lines, coordinating with criminals and lawmakers in order to keep the peace. And during Mike’s tenure, he was able to settle a lot of unrest within his community. But now, things may be getting too big for the Mayor to handle, as Kingstown descends into chaos and corruption.
Mike McLusky & Cindy Stephens Get Close
Mike McLusky has been extremely cautious when it comes to getting romantically involved with anyone. While there seemed to be a connection between Mike and Iris, Mike was well aware of the trauma she had endured, and he respectfully kept his distance and maintained a purely platonic relationship.
And then, with Evelyn, the Assistant DA, the pair did get intimate frequently, but it was partially out of convenience, and both sides used this connection to further their own agendas.
However, with Mike and Evelyn falling out, Mike has now connected with the new prison guard, Cindy Stephens. Cindy is a single mother, and someone with a strong sense of justice. As such, Cindy is willing and ready to help Mike support his brother, even when Mike tells her to back down, proving she could be a solid partner for Mike moving forward.
Frank Moses Has Called In Backup From Detroit To Control Kingstown
After Frank Moses sent a two-person kill squad to wipe out the cartel, their operation went south, and a highly skilled gangster from the other side was able to kill Moses’ men. However, Moses is playing it cool, and using this incident as a moment to teach his young partner, Bunny.
Moses calls in the cavalry, with more of his own guys from Detroit ready to take the cartel down. Meanwhile, Bunny instructs Raphael to attack the cartel from inside the prison. They cause some damage, but ultimately they are stopped before they can take down Roberto Cruz.
Tracey McLusky Is Being Targeted
With Kyle locked up in Anchor Bay, Mike has taken it upon himself to protect his brother’s wife, Tracey, and his nephew. However, when Tracey wakes up startled due to hearing her car alarm, she discovers the door has been opened. Mike comes to check the house, and there is no sign of anyone still there.
While Tracey is safe for now, this is not a good sign of what could come. Tracey’s life could very well be in danger, and seeing how the cartel and the crips are stepping up their game, Mike might not be able to protect her from what’s coming.
Detective Ian Ferguson Goes Behind Mike’s Back To Make An Attempt On Evelyn’s Life
Further cementing how much Mike’s power appears to be dwindling in Kingstown, Ian Ferguson, a detective who has the closest relationship to Mike, has gone behind his back to attack Evelyn. Evelyn has found a key witness who could testify against Ian, and hopefully, force him to testify about Robert’s numerous crimes.
Ian does tell his partner, Stevie, when pressed, that he wasn’t trying to kill her, just to scare her. However, Evelyn does not scare easily, and she is now working harder than ever to bring the corruption in the KPD to light.
Unfortunately, the bad blood and deceit between Ian and Mike because of this incident is likely to get worse, not better, and it is certain to make Mike’s life a lot harder when he doesn’t have Ian on his side, or willing to give up important information about events happening in Kingstown.
The Warden Reveals Her True Colors As Anchor Bay Sinks Deeper Into Corruption
Prior to this episode, it was becoming abundantly clear that deputy warden Torres was corrupt. However, it was less clear if the warden knew about Torres’ unconventional friendship with the cartel leaders on the inside. But now, with the warden brokering a deal with Merle Callahan to continue to influence Kyle McLusky, it seems abundantly clear.
Evidently, the prison is still operating under a warped and corrupt agenda. The warden is turning a blind eye on criminal activity in the prison, and her deputy is actively employing shady tactics in order to manipulate the prisoners.
Mike Learns About Kyle’s Cell Neighbor, Merle Callahan
Thanks to Cindy, Mike does finally get the information he has been desperately asking for since the first episode. Cindy recorded the details about who is in the unit with Kyle, and who is his cell neighbor, who is none other than Merle Callahan.
Callahan is a leader in a white supremacist gang, the same gang that Mike joined while he was in prison in order to survive. Mike does not want his brother to become corrupt, but with Callahan whispering in his ear and influencing him, it seems likely that Kyle will end up going down the wrong path.
Mike is devastated to learn that Callahan is next to Kyle, and for good reason. As seen in previous episodes, Callahan has been gaining Kyle’s trust, and building up credit with the former KPD officer. Now, Kyle may be more likely to believe what Callahan has to say, and do some questionable things in Mayor of Kingstown season 4.
