Warner Bros. is preparing to re-release Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone to theatres in an enhanced and immersive format, ahead of HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter remake series. The studio has confirmed a special “shared reality” version of the 2001 film as part of its 25th-anniversary celebrations.
The upcoming release is being developed in collaboration with Cosm, building upon previous successful partnerships that featured The Matrix and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory in similar formats.
This enhanced version of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is expected to arrive in early 2026, with ticket availability expected to start simultaneously. According to a report by Variety, this immersive experience is powered by Cosm’s 87-foot LED domes and cutting-edge filmmaking technology, specially designed to fully wrap the audience in the immersive world.
Cosm currently operates venues in Los Angeles and Dallas, with plans to introduce new locations in Detroit and Atlanta next year. The updated film presentation is a collaborative effort with Little Cinema and MakeMake Entertainment.
Warner Bros. previously announced a worldwide re-release for the movie’s 25th anniversary, marking a major milestone for the franchise. Directed by Chris Columbus, the film introduced audiences to Harry, Ron, and Hermione and established a whimsical tone that shaped the early years of the series.
Columbus directed the first two films before the franchise shifted to other directors, ultimately leading to David Yates, who has directed every Wizarding World film since Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
Columbus recently commented on the discussions around J.K. Rowling, expressing that her recent remarks were “very sad.” Rowling has also criticised Emma Watson, who played the original Hermione, for her public statements. Despite these disagreements, the Harry Potter brand continues to enjoy a huge global following, making the anniversary a perfect time for a new cinematic experience.
Production for HBO’s full-length Harry Potter television remake has already started. The series plans to adapt one book per season, which will allow for a more elaborate storytelling than the films. New actors will be cast as Harry, Ron, and Hermione, and the series is scheduled to release in 2027. As Warner Bros. and Cosm explore new ways to enhance classic films, the re-release of Harry Potter may appeal to both die-hard fans and new audiences.
