The stars of Outlander: Blood of My Blood open up about when viewers could see little Jamie Fraser. Serving as a prequel to the long-running Outlander series, Blood of My Blood centers on the romance between the parents of Jamie Fraser on one side and the parents of Claire Beauchamp on the other.

Tracking two love stories in two different time periods, the cast of Outlander: Blood of My Blood is led by Hermione Corfield as Julia Moriston, Jeremy Irvine as Henry Beauchamp, Harriet Slater as Ellen MacKenzie, and Jamie Roy as Brian Fraser. It’s already been renewed for season 2, setting the stage for a deeper exploration of the time before Outlander.

In an interview with Deadline, the four leads are asked about when viewers might see the youngest years of Jamie Fraser. Roy jokes about playing a small Jamie Fraser, while Corfield explains that Matt Roberts, the showrunner and executive producer, stated the series will end when Jamie is born. Roy notes Jamie would be the third child, so the story hasn’t reached that point yet. Their quotes are included below:

Roy: A wee Jamie? I mean, I can get on my knees.

Corfield: Matt Roberts said when Jamie is born, that’s when [the show] ends.

Roy: Well, he’s the third child, so we have a wee bit to go. We’re at child number zero at the moment. Hopefully, one of these days, we can see that on screen. Fans would love to see that as well.

The prequel spinoff unfolds on two seemingly separate fronts. There is the story of Jamie’s parents in 18th-century Scotland. Then there are Claire’s parents in England during the First World War. But there is also an element of time travel that works to connect those two threads. Blood of My Blood season 1 ends with Julia and Henry attempting to travel through the stones. That has implications for the main series.

The implication, at least, is that Henry and Julia could travel to some point where Claire and Jamie are. The fact that the prequel is already confirmed means that Blood of My Blood season 2 will have the necessary narrative space to explore those key questions, which is made all the more important because of the fact that the main series will soon end its long run.

Starz’s Outlander shows are based on the novels by Diana Gabaldon.

Outlander season 8 will be its last, debuting on Friday, March 6. The historical drama’s last outing will release weekly every Friday on the Starz app and the network’s streaming and on-demand services, consisting of ten episodes. It may be the best way to get a view of Jamie since Outlander: Blood of My Blood looks to be focused on a different time period as it attempts to get the ball rolling on this new iteration of a hit series.
