The surge in fraudulent casting attempts has prompted yet another major voice in Tamil cinema to issue a public caution. Raaj Kamal Films International, the production house founded by Kamal Haasan, released a statement urging aspiring actors and the general public to stay alert. The company clarified that it has not hired any casting agents for any film and requested users to dismiss any e mails or social media posts claiming otherwise.
A Fresh Warning From One of Tamil Cinema’s Finest Banners
In its statement on X, RKFI made it clear that it communicates only through official channels and that any party found misusing its name would face legal consequences. The note also carried a reminder that genuine casting calls from established production houses never require payments, personal favours or private interactions outside verified communication lines.
This is not the first time RKFI has had to address impersonation. The banner issued a similar warning earlier this year after several individuals received fraudulent offers claiming to represent ongoing projects, including a few linked falsely to Kamal Haasan himself. According to fan groups and social media trackers, the frequency of such scams has increased in the last eight months.

A Year of Repeated Alerts Across the Industry
RKFI’s latest caution joins a long list of alerts issued by film professionals who have been forced to call out impersonators. Earlier in August, Pa Ranjith’s Neelam Productions urged aspiring actors to be extremely careful of suspicious casting calls. The company stressed that any legitimate audition information is always shared publicly and never through private messages from unknown accounts.
Around the same time, Prince Pictures shared a detailed cautionary notice after discovering that fraudsters were offering fake acting opportunities in the upcoming film Sardar 2. Several aspirants had reportedly been asked for payments in exchange for roles. The production house clarified that it had never authorised such communication and urged fans not to respond to any individual claiming to secure parts in the film for money.
Actor Sibi Sathyaraj also confronted a similar issue this year. A casting call circulating online used his name and image to convince actors of an alleged project. Sibi publicly denied any involvement and warned the public that he had nothing to do with either the person behind the scam or the project being mentioned.
More recently, actors Aditi Rao Hydari and Shriya Saran addressed impersonation attempts. Both performers posted notes clarifying that the individuals messaging people in their names were fake. Aditi reminded fans that all updates regarding her work come through her team, while Shriya posted a strong message telling the impersonator to stop contacting people and wasting their time.
Dhanush’s long time manager Sreyas, who also serves as a director at Wunderbar Films, issued two warnings this year. The first came in February after fans reported fake casting calls promising access to upcoming productions. The second was a more recent statement prompted by a controversy involving someone pretending to represent the actor.

Fraudulent casting attempts have become a recurring issue affecting not only actors and production houses but also everyday film aspirants who may not be aware of standard industry practices. Many of these scams operate on the promise of access, preying on young actors who hope to get a break in a competitive field. The rise of impersonation through direct messages and unofficial e mail addresses has made it easier for scammers to appear convincing.
Industry insiders have repeatedly advised new actors to treat any private audition message with caution, verify all contact information and rely only on official handles or public casting announcements. Larger studios are now taking stronger legal positions and are working toward clearer guidelines to curb such impersonation attempts.

While the film industry continues to expand with new creators and new talent, the parallel rise in fraudulent activity is a reminder that vigilance is now part of the process for anyone seeking to step into cinema.
