For Good Box Office Hits Major Milestone Immediately After Golden Globes Snub

Wicked: For Good has passed another major box office milestone after being snubbed by the 2026 Golden Globes. While it technically received more nominations than 2024’s Wicked (which had four nominations and one win, for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement), two of its five nominations are for Best Original Song, which is a category for which the previous movie was ineligible.

While the sequel was nominated for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, Best Actress – Musical or Comedy (Cynthia Erivo), and Best Supporting Actress (Ariana Grande) just like its predecessor, it was not nominated for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. Instead, that honor went to Blue Moon, Bugonia, Marty Supreme, No Other Choice, Nouvelle Vague, and One Battle After Another.

Per The Numbers, Wicked: For Good has passed the $300 million milestone at the domestic box office, hitting a cumulative domestic total of $300.9 million by the end of Tuesday, which is the day that immediately followed the announcement of the Golden Globe nominations.

2025’s Wicked: For Good is only the fifth movie of the year to have earned more than $300 million in domestic theaters, behind Jurassic World Rebirth ($339.6 million), Superman ($354.2 million), Lilo & Stitch ($423.8 million), and A Minecraft Movie ($423.9 million).

By hitting this milestone, the Wicked: For Good release has doubled its reported budget of $150 million at the domestic box office alone before the end of its third full week in theaters.

Blockbuster movies typically need to earn back two and a half times their budgets in theaters in order to turn a profit, which could place For Good‘s estimated break-even point as high as $375 million. However, it has already surpassed that milestone worldwide with a cumulative global gross of $446.8 million.

It ultimately remains to be seen if the movie is able to outgross the original Wicked, which earned $758.7 million worldwide by the end of its run. While For Good had the highest-grossing opening weekend ever for a Broadway musical adaptation, it was struck with unusually large week-on-week drops in its second and third frames.

This, combined with the movie’s Golden Globes Best Picture snub and the fact that its Rotten Tomatoes score is 68% compared to the original’s Certified Fresh 88%, adds to the sense that the sequel is generally experiencing diminishing returns.

However, Wicked: For Good hitting this milestone secures its status as a box office success, even if it fails to become a runaway hit at the level of its 2024 predecessor.
