While he might have been a cheater and Anakin Skywalker’s biggest rival in The Phantom Menace, Sebulba was very much the gold standard for podracing dominance, having one of the coolest and most intimidating podracers ever. Now, it’s just been revealed that the Dug racer is expected to make a brand-new Star Wars return next year.

With the brand-new Galactic Racer game arriving in 2026, the galaxy’s most infamous podracer is finally reclaiming his place in the spotlight, 27 years after he first appeared in The Phantom Menace. Keeping that in mind, here’s a brief history of Sebulba’s Star Wars journey and everything he’s been up to since the Boonta Eve Classic.

Sebulba Was Just Teased For A Major Star Wars Return in Galactic Racer (Releasing In 2026)

Sebulba’s surprise return was teased at the very end of Star Wars: Galactic Racer’s reveal trailer at The Game Awards 2025, a brand-new racing game releasing in 2026, reportedly coming from developers who worked on the Need For Speed franchise.

Sebulba’s unmistakable podracer engine roars were also heard, teasing that we might be seeing the return of his iconic orange-and-black pod among the various speeders and bikes featured in “The Galactic League,” a new racing circuit run by the syndicates during the New Republic Era on planets like Jakku and what looks like it might be Hoth.

As such, this new racing opportunity may be Sebulba’s big comeback to the racing world following a rougher career for the Dug following the rise of the Empire.

Everything We Know About Sebulba After His Phantom Menace Loss

After losing to Anakin Skywalker in Tatooine’s Boonta Eve Classic, Sebulba didn’t disappear. He continued racing throughout the Clone Wars, developing a legendary rivalry with Ben Quadinaros (confirmed via a poster in Anakin’s room in the Jedi Temple).

When the Empire banned podracing, Sebulba followed it underground as well, with illegal circuits still operating on Outer Rim worlds like Batuu (seen in the mixed reality game Beyond Victory).

Furthermore, comics like IDW’s Star Wars Adventures confirmed that after Sebulba apparently washed out of podracing in the New Republic Era, he became involved in battle-racing: high-speed ship competitions using live ammunition.

In 2017’s Star Wars Adventures #23, Sebulba piloted The Widowmaker, a ship that looked like his OG podracer fused with a TIE Fighter. It was brutal, fast, and perfectly on-brand for the Dug racer (who was also a one-time informant to Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca during the early New Republic Era).

Now, Galactic Racer suggests Sebulba will be connected to the syndicate-run Galactic League, placing the former champion right back at the heart of outlaw racing culture, and perhaps even a major podracing comeback for the classic Phantom Menace foe.
