It’s a pretty interesting time to be a fan of Red Dead Redemption. The recent re-release of the original game has seen a huge resurgence in interest, which works out nicely for Rockstar Games, given GTA 6 has been delayed to November 19, 2026.
As happy as I am to return to the original Red Dead Redemption, however, what I really want is an excuse to go back and play Red Dead Redemption 2. Ideally at 60fps on console. While those rumors persist, an unexpected new leak suggests we might be getting Red Dead Redemption 2 for free at the end of December.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Free Download Seemingly Leaks
I’d take this with a massive pinch of salt
As you probably know, the Epic Games Store typically gives away a new game every week for free. Last week was a bigger than usual one with Harry Potter RPG Hogwarts Legacy given away for the low price of nothing at all. Over the Christmas period, Epic starts giving away one free game a day.
Between December 19 and January 2 last year, Epic Games gave away some serious bangers. These are the games we got in 2024:

- December 22: Wizard of Legend
- December 23: Upgrade to legendary status for the free-to-play game Dark and Darker

So, as you can see, Epic isn’t in the habit of giving away piddly little games. There are some huge titles up for grabs. Which is why I’m not going to dismiss this Red Dead Redemption 2 leak out of hand.
A new leak doing the rounds on Twitter that allegedly started on Chinese social media shows the entire lineup of Epic’s daily free Christmas games, and it looks like we’ll be getting Red Dead Redemption 2 on December 31.

I’d take this with a huge pinch of salt, of course, but it won’t be difficult to work out whether this is true or not in just a few days. The Epic Games Store daily Christmas giveaway begins December 18. According to the leak, the first game of the giveaway will be Jurassic World Evolution 2. If this ends up being true, we can probably hold more store by the rest of the leak, so be sure to check back in a few days.

So there you have it. I feel like Red Dead Redemption 2 is definitely the star of the show here, and I’d lose my mind if this turns out to be true. But that’s like two whole weeks of really brilliant games for free, so here’s hoping this does turn out to be legit.
