Jeremy Allen White On The Bear’s Future Beyond Season 5

Jeremy Allen White revealed whether he thinks The Bear will continue after the upcoming fifth season. The Bear season 4 was just released this past July on Hulu, and a fifth season has already been renewed. On the series, White stars as a chef named Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, who is forced to return to Chicago to run his family’s restaurant.

As White and the other cast members have seen their careers skyrocket in recent years, questions have arisen over how long The Bear will run for. During an interview with Deadline, the lead actor admitted that he’s used to being on long-running television shows after starring on Shameless, which aired for 11 seasons on Showtime.

White admits that he could easily see himself staying on The Bear for “a long time.” However, he is very aware of how difficult it is to “maintain the continuity and the level of storytelling” that the creative team desires when a show runs for that long.

White loves being able to work alongside such an amazing cast and has nothing but praise for showrunner Christopher Storer and his own character, Carmy, but he’s not sure “how much longer we’ll do it for.”

“I did Shameless for so long, so that’s what I’m sort of used to in television. You do it for a decade-plus. But I know it’s hard to maintain the continuity and the level of storytelling when you go for that long. But it’s difficult. I love that cast so much. I love Chris Storer so much. We shoot that show so quickly. I love Carmy so much. I could do it for a long time, but I don’t know how much longer we’ll do it for.”

The Bear has been a huge hit for Hulu and has racked up several award show wins along the way, including at the Emmys, Golden Globes, SAG Awards and Critics’ Choice Awards. White himself has won statues at all of these award shows, as have his fellow cast members on The Bear: Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri and Liza Colón-Zayas.

At the upcoming Golden Globe Awards, hosted by Nikki Glaser, The Bear is up for three nominations: Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy, Best Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy (White) and Best Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy (Ayo Edebiri).

As The Bear has gotten more and more popular, so, too, has the star power of the cast. White recently played Bruce Springsteen in the biopic Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, with the actor receiving a Golden Globe nomination for that role. In 2026, he’ll appear in The Mandalorian and Grogu and The Social Reckoning.

Last year, Moss-Bachrach played The Thing in The Fantastic Four: First Steps and will return to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday. Edebiri, meanwhile, starred opposite Julia Roberts in After the Hunt and has lent her voice to movies like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Inside Out 2; she also has a recurring role on Abbott Elementary.

With how busy everyone’s careers have gotten, all these other projects may prevent the cast from being able to reunite after The Bear season 5, which might be why White isn’t willing to give a more definitive answer, not to mention the fact that the ultimate decision rests with Hulu.

If the streaming service wants to renew The Bear, it’s possible that executives could decide to have a larger gap between seasons to accommodate everyone’s schedules; up until now, Hulu has released a new season every single year since it debuted in 2022.

The Bear season 4 ended with Sydney and Richie taking over the duties at the restaurant after Carmy bowed out. While the outcome of that storyline is uncertain right now, it could allow for White to go off and work on other projects outside of The Bear.

No matter what the future holds for the Hulu series, White would love to keep starring on The Bear for years to come—and there’s no doubt that fans would want that as well.
