After nine seasons and myriad hilarious scenes of The Office, it’s easy to miss some of the smaller moments that don’t get the same attention as those that went viral. It’s not until a few rewatches later that the lesser-remembered jokes are even funnier because of how easily missed they are.
Characters like Creed Bratton and Erin Hannon are always reliable for sneaky, funny one-liners that aren’t caught at first, but once they’re noticed, they’re easily some of the best moments in the series. Whether it’s a glance to camera or a scene that deserves more attention amid the chaos, The Office is known for endless amusing scenes.
When Michael Force Fed Kevin Broccoli
In season 7, episode 13, “Ultimatum,” Michael Scott got upset that his ex-girlfriend and crush, Holly Flax, wasn’t sticking to her New Year’s resolution. Holly told some of her colleagues that if her then-boyfriend A.J. didn’t propose, she was leaving him. Michael was eagerly hoping that he still had a shot.
In typical Michael fashion, he held a nonsensical meeting about resolutions and forced Kevin to stick to his, which was eating more vegetables. Michael hilariously and forcefully made Kevin eat raw broccoli, which was very hard for Kevin since he wasn’t used to eating vegetables in the first place.
While everyone was focused on Kevin choking back broccoli, Kelly hilariously said, “Stop it, Michael, you’re killing him!” The idea that Kevin was dying from being forced to eat broccoli was something that could only happen at Dunder Mifflin.
Creed Tried To Appear Younger By Adding Printer Ink To His Head
In The Office‘s two-parter episode, “Dunder Mifflin Infinity,” Creed got worried about the updated changes Dunder Mifflin was going through after hiring Ryan Howard as Vice President of Sales. Seeing that the company was going in a younger and faster-paced direction, and he was the Scranton Branch’s oldest worker, Creed felt like he had to put on a younger front to save his job.
In the scene, Michael grew annoyed when the printer was out of black ink. The camera then zoomed over to Creed, who looked guilty with black ink on his balding head.
The moment was fast, but easily one of the funniest scenes. Creed was so worried about his job that he quickly added ink on his head to act as if he had a young, youthful head of hair.
Gabriel Susan Lewis
Gabe Lewis was easily one of the most awkward and unwelcome characters at the Scranton branch. He joined the series as the Coordinating Director of Emerging Regions for Sabre and ruffled feathers with new rules and guidelines.
Despite how awkward he was, he had some hilarious moments in the series. One of them was when he revealed his real name: Gabriel Susan Lewis.
This scene largely works because of actor Zach Wood, as it’s his tone and delivery that make the line so funny. The fact that his middle name was Susan made him an even less dominating and threatening character, despite his desire to be seen as an Alpha male.
When Erin Took Andy’s Orders Too Seriously
Erin was an incredibly gullible character, but she always had good intentions. In season 8, Andy Bernard was the branch’s regional manager, and Erin was the receptionist. Before an important meeting with a client, Andy asked Erin to interrupt the meeting by claiming there was an important phone call, which he would then deny to show dedication to the client.
Erin seemed to understand the prompt, but took it a step too far when she told Andy in the middle of the meeting, “Andy, your mother is dead.” Andy then had to act as though he was in disbelief, but knew the meeting was killed after a fake message like that.
As expected, the client was incredibly uncomfortable and apologetic, but Erin’s looks to the camera proved she thought she did an excellent job. Her obliviousness to Andy’s original ask made it a cringy scene, but easily one of the funniest after a few rewatches.
“Scissor Me!”
In the season 6 episode “Sabre,” Michael was excited when a large box from the company’s new owner, Sabre, arrived. Thinking the box was a gift, he looked at Erin and yelled, “Scissor me!” so he could open the box.
Instead of Erin handing Michael the scissors, she threw them at him. He awkwardly caught them in between his fingers and looked proudly at the cameras, while Pam looked stunned. This was a classic moment that showed how literal Erin took things and how much Michael appreciated a cheerleader like her. And for all of Michael’s “That’s what she said” quotes, he certainly missed his own double entendre.
Michael Changed His Hairstyle To Match Jim’s After Realizing They Were Real Friends
In season 2’s “The Secret,” Jim regretted telling Michael that he had a crush on Pam because Michael didn’t know how to keep a secret. To prevent Michael from spilling the beans, Jim spent more time with him in the office and let him know that he was the only one who knew about the crush.
Michael longed to be liked by his colleagues. Knowing that Jim told him something in confidence made him happier than he was willing to admit. He then delusionally tried to act like Jim to prove their closeness. Cameras secretly caught him combing his hair to mirror Jim’s.
Creed Thought Dunder Mifflin Had Vallet
Creed was one of those characters who was mysterious and seemingly lived a hidden life. No one really knew what his job was at Dunder Mifflin, and it was rare to see him working and not focused on a crossword or personal project. Known for his one-liners and off-the-cuff points of view, one of his funnier and underrated scenes was when he thought Dunder Mifflin had a valet.
As the Acting Regional Manager, Creed had a new air about him. He showed up to work and told the cameras how beautiful it was before saying, “Keep it running, boys!” and throwing his keys to an imaginary valet in the parking lot. Thinking their building had a valet, after working there for over a decade, was a very Creed move.
Jim Faked His Murder To Scare Dwight
Jim pranking Dwight was part of his normal, daily work routine. There were times Jim took it too far, but it was all in jest. However, in season 8’s “Tallahassee,” Jim may have crossed the line by faking his own murder.
While in Florida for work, Jim rigged his hotel door so that Dwight could enter. When he did, the hotel room was a mess, and the message “It was Dwight” was written on the door. Just as Dwight was wrapping his head around what happened, Jim’s limp body plopped out of the closet and onto the floor.
Dwight screamed in shock before the cameras changed scenes. As dark as the prank was, Dwight’s reaction to finding Jim murdered gets funnier and funnier.
Kevin Malone, The Receptionist
It’s hard not to laugh whenever Kevin Malone has a scene. His childlike wonder and simple personality make the most basic lines hysterical. In a season 5 cold open, Kevin filled in for Pam as a receptionist, and it went exactly as expected. He had trouble connecting callers to the right desk, spoke too slowly, and forgot to perform basic duties.
In the scene, Jim reminded Kevin that he had to answer the phone. When he did, he read from a script but forgot how to transfer the caller to the right employee. Instead, he held the phone away from his face and screamed for the worker to come to his desk and take the call.
Jim eventually forced Kevin to transfer the call correctly, which turned into Kevin desk-hopping while transferring each phone until he luckily connected to the right person. Seeing Kevin desk hop instead of correctly transferring was gold.
Michael’s Realization That He Was A Part Of A Pyramid Scheme
Michael was easily fooled, gullible, and far too trusting. He took things literally and didn’t typically realize when he was the butt of the joke. This was shown in “Michael’s Birthday” when he showed his employees a new side hustle he recently started.
Michael expressed that they could get rich quickly and that everyone would benefit. He drew a number of people on a whiteboard and explained the chain of command. Jim and Oscar were quick to point out that it sounded like he joined a pyramid scheme. Michael denied the claim, but once Jim outlined the people in Michael’s drawing, it made a perfect triangle.
Michael looked stumped and quietly left after admitting he had to make a phone call. The realization that Michael could get humbled so quickly is easily one of The Office‘s funniest moments.
