From Ed Baldwin making the hard choices, to Gordo and Tracy Stevens saving the Moon base, to their son, Danny Stevens, saving a space hotel from utter destruction, there are a lot of intense beats as the series sees life-or-death circumstances faced head-on by brave souls willing to put themselves on the line, and do what they believe is good and right.
However, in recent seasons, more conflict has arisen as ideological differences divide characters, rather than the classic hero moments where people step in to save the lives of others. For All Mankind Season 5, Episode 5 Repeats A Story From Season 4
After the death of Ed Baldwin, people on the Mars base have been having regular protests, but the news that leadership on Mars intends to trade out the thousands of individuals working and living on the Red Planet in favor of replacing them with automation has caused an even bigger stir. Now, the people who have made Mars their home are fighting for a voice, and the authorities have come down hard in opposition.
Unfortunately, this moment is remarkably similar to an event that happened just ten years earlier in the world of the show, during season 4. When leaders on Earth wanted to bring a large asteroid that had a wealth of resources to mine into the orbit of the Moon, the people of Mars took matters into their own hands to ensure they had work and opportunities for years to come.
This led to a major conflict between the workers on Mars and the guards who were acting on the orders of Earth’s leaders. Ultimately, in the conflict, people were tortured, beaten, pushed down, and Danielle Poole was shot in a riot that broke out. But now, a new riot has emerged as the people of Mars fight for a voice and their own rights.
Mars Needs Some Serious Changes In Leadership
At present, the M6 has full authority and control over the Mars base, while the people living on the surface have limited rights and must be subject to rules imposed by forces that they haven’t elected or endorsed. This is clearly unsustainable, and for the second time in a decade, it has led to bloodshed, violence, and intense aggression between two different classes of people.
While M6 is happy to exchange leadership between themselves, without having a significant stake on the surface aside from their financial benefit, 5000 people are living on the planet, with many entire families having made their way to the planet in crates to seek a new and better life.
Now, those people need the opportunity to use their voice and elect their own leaders. Unfortunately, tensions have exploded, and things are about to get a whole lot worse before they can get better.
The Latest Mars Riot Is Likely To End Very Differently
In the previous riot, there was a small group of the working class, and the conflict ended when everyone snapped to their senses as Danielle Poole took a bullet. Now, there are a lot more people who want to fight for their right to stay on Mars, and despite the Peacekeepers coming in hot with guns and sticks, the crowd got the advantage.
At the end of For All Mankind season 5, episode 5, the rioters have gotten their hands on multiple weapons and firearms, and the Peacekeepers retreat. This suggests that the riot has only just begun, and the power shift is about to become a major plot point as this season continues to explore the class dynamics on Mars.
