Steam has won me over as an RPG fan. Although I used to figuratively wander through Steam by clicking around aimlessly, curation tools have helped me find games in a big way. RPGs are constantly being pumped out for release on Steam, from all corners of the world, and through all sorts of monetization efforts.

RPGs from pretty much every setting are available, from classic fantasy to the far reaches of space and sci-fi. Even if a particular AAA game is on sale and languishing at full price, odds are there’s something on Steam that’s similar (or pays homage to) those massively scaled projects.

Over on Steam, fans are loving an RPG that’s one part Hogwarts Legacy, one part Final Fantasy. It’s also available to try for free right now, so if you’re looking for something new to play, this could be your chance to discover a game that currently has “very positive” user reviews.

Dropping this week on Steam, Magical Princess is now available from developers Neotro and Magi. It’s free to try with a demo and is still at a “very positive” rating, climbing, with several hundred reviews under its belt.

Here’s a full breakdown of what you can expect from Magical Princess: “Raise your daughter while she attends a magical academy. Choose which classes she attends, jobs she does, training she undergoes, and more in a character raising sim packed full of story and over 50 endings to reach. How she grows up to be the world’s cutest princess depends on you!”

While the premise sounds off-the-wall to some, fans are really digging it, including this user who left a glowing review: “I received this game as a joke, and can honestly say it is no joke. Great game, story, art, and characters are absolutely delightful. Tons of relatability. Started off first playthrough thinking this game was going to be silly, and ended up playing for 6.5 hours straight. 10/10 Game.”

Others aren’t super impressed, but ended up getting sucked into the game world, which extends beyond this Steam release: “Yeah, there is nothing I can really complain about. The game is so extra and sweet it actually feels like you’re eating lavishly baked bread that’s like, clearly dangerous for you to eat too much of. I even bought one of their boardgames, apparently these guys made tons of boardgames with these characters and this is like a big reference/crossover thing.”

If you’re looking for a new RPG, this might be it. Just keep in mind the demo is available now, so you can try it out for free and see if it’s your cup of tea before buying.

Despite having been in operation for several decades, Steam never ceases to surprise us. It’s one of the most accessible gaming platforms in history, and developers won’t stop releasing interesting games for it anytime soon.
