The Rookie is officially expanding up north.
For eight seasons, Nathan Fillion’s procedural has been a staple of ABC’s programming. Considering its success beyond the usual Live+Same Day viewership rating, charting regularly on streaming and spreading its popularity on social media, it would be an understatement to say that The Rookie is a vital piece of the network’s portfolio. While the 2025-2026 TV cycle ended on a massive cliffhanger for the people at MidWilshire, there’s something else brewing within the bigger franchise that people can look forward to next cycle.
Ever since news broke out that series creator Alexi Hawley was developing another spinoff for the show after the end of The Rookie: Feds, the fanbase has been buzzing about what to expect from this new installment. Officially titled The Rookie: North, the series will star Jay Ellis as Alex Holland, who is essentially John Nolan’s Pacific Northwest counterpart. According to the official premise of the show, its events start after its lead’s pursuit of a new sense of purpose leads him to join the force, which tackles cases from the “urban coast to the rural forest.”
After weeks of waiting, ABC has officially made the decision for The Rookie: North, with Variety reporting that the spinoff has officially been ordered for a full series. At the time of writing, no further production information has been announced for the rest of the season, nor is it currently known how many episodes the spinoff will consist of.
