LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a sprawling open-world game with hundreds of collectibles and challenges. And that’s not even including the stuff you’ll need to find inside individual levels if you’re trying to 100% the game. From Red Bricks and Batsuits to Skill Bricks and Riddler Puzzles, there are countless things to find and do. While you’ll be able to complete some things as you naturally progress through the story, there are thankfully ways to streamline the process of getting 100% completion as well.
As with previous LEGO games, most of what you’ll need to do to reach 100% completion in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight comes down to having studs (the in-game currency) and finding collectibles. In this entry alone, there are radio towers, SubWayne tunnels, WayneTech Caches, Red Bricks, Batcave Trophies, escaped zoo animals, and Batman coins to find. And that’s not even everything. If you’re looking for ways to 100% the game, here are some tricks and trips to help you out.
10
Save Most Collectibles Until After The Main Story
As with most LEGO games, there are a lot of collectibles that are best saved until after the main story is completed. This is especially true for the various challenges and collectibles that cover pretty much every inch of Gotham City. It’s fine, of course, to chip away at some of these as you find them, but it’s still best to wait until the story is finished to complete them in earnest.
This is because everything will be easier after the credits roll. You’ll have character upgrades which make fights easier, and you’ll have access to all playable characters in Legacy of the Dark Knight and their abilities, so you can actually solve all the puzzles. By this time you’ll also (hopefully) have unlocked all SubWayne tunnels for fast travel and radio towers to see all collectibles (more on both of those in a moment).
9
Check Challenges In The Batcave
Of all the mechanics introduced in the Batcave, this might be the one that’s easiest to overlook. This takes place toward the entrance of the Batcave, where you unlock pieces of a mural by completing challenges. If you want to truly 100% LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, you’ll need to finish all of these challenges. However, you only need to complete 20 to get the trophy/achievement associated with it.
You’ll want to check these challenges regularly, since they tell you what to do. It makes it easier to complete them, especially the ones related to combat, as you play through levels. You’ll also get nice rewards like LEGO studs for completing individual challenges, which can help greatly with purchase-related trophies/achievements, like buying suits from Bat-mite’s shop and purchasing Batmobiles in the Batcave.
8
Look For Stud Caches As You Travel Through Gotham City
There are a couple of types of treasure chests to find in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. The first is for WayneTech Caches, which you’ll need to snag for gadget upgrades and various trophies/achievements. However, there are also stud caches which can make you very rich, very quickly. These don’t show up on the map, but they will appear on your screen when you’re using detection.
The best way to find them is by spamming detection while gliding, grappling, or driving through Gotham City. They’ll have the same symbols as WayneTech caches, but without the “W” on them. It’s not necessarily vital to roam around and look for them specifically, but because of how plentiful they are, it is worth keeping an eye out for them as you naturally travel around the city. Plus, they don’t come with corresponding puzzles to solve. You literally just have to open them, which is nice.
7
Always Be Listening
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is the kind of game you’ll want to play with the sound up. This is for a variety of reasons, but almost all of them will help you reach 100% completion faster. First, characters will provide hints when collectibles inside levels are nearby. It might just be a casual “I see something,” but it lets you know a collectible is close. Similarly, they’ll sometimes do this when you’re near a Batcave Trophy, escaped zoo animal, and any variety of collectible or challenge in the overworld.
Then there are WayneTech Caches inside of levels and around Gotham City, which will ping when you’re nearby. Inside of levels, in particular, this is helpful because you can’t mark them on a map. The closer you get, the louder the pinging is, so use this mechanic to your advantage. Batman will also speak directly to you at times, letting you know when another character is needed to solve a puzzle or when evidence is close.
6
Find Wind Tunnels & Use Them
One of the trickier trophies and achievements to get in Legacy of the Dark Knight involves using 10 different wind tunnels. Those are the tubes of wind that you can typically spot at random places above Gotham City. Most of them aren’t easy to reach, and you’ll need to grapple and find vents in order to get high enough to access them. Honestly, you can beat the entire game and never really use them.
And this is exactly why you need to make it a point to find wind tunnels and use them. Otherwise, you could be stuck looking for them rather than coming across them naturally and chipping away at this achievement a bit at a time. It’s further complicated because it’s not tracked like most other collectibles and goals are. These don’t show up on your map. And because they have to be different wind tunnels, be careful you don’t keep using the same ones.
5
Respond To Random Crimes
“We’ve got a kerfuffle!” You’ll hear announcements from the Gotham City PD every 30–60 seconds as you travel around the city. On the surface, it might seem like you can just ignore these, since they aren’t connected to any collectibles listed on the map. However, there are two trophies/achievements that are specifically tied to responding to crimes and both can take a while if you simply ignore this gameplay mechanic.
You’ll need to stop 30 crimes for 1 trophy/achievement and then complete a response to every different kind of crime at least once to get the second. Because the crimes are random, this second one can especially take some time. The first can be grinded out at the end of the game, but it’s better to chip away at both of these over the course of the story. If you do, both trophies/achievements should pop on their own.
4
Unlock SubWayne Tunnels For Fast Travel
Each area of Gotham City has its own SubWayne tunnel entrance. Solving puzzles or completing challenges related to them will open the entrance and unlock fast travel to that specific zone. Some of these are fairly straightforward, like fighting off some bad guys, but others can involve tricky puzzles. The Cauldron South’s SubWayne puzzle, for example, took some thinking.
You’ll definitely want to prioritize SubWayne entrances as you roam around Gotham City, since it makes traveling incredibly faster and easier. You’ll also get a trophy/achievement for completing them all. This can be done relatively early in the story, but a few can’t be completed until the correct characters are unlocked, so be sure to take some time and do it.
3
Check Collectibles At The Start Of Each Level
Most (but not all) levels have 5 collectibles for a Batcave Trophy, 5 WayneTech Caches, and 1 Red Brick to find. While the Red Brick and WayneTech Caches always look the same, the collectibles for a new trophy in the Batcave are unique to that level. This can be birthday cakes, Venus flytraps, Bonsai trees, or any number of things. For example, the Iceberg Lounge has a Red Brick, 5 Disco Balls to destroy, and 5 WayneTech caches.
Be sure to hit Pause on your game at the start of each level. The pause menu will show you what’s available to collect. This way, you’ll know the kind of trophy collectibles you’re looking for right out the gate. It’s also helpful because some levels only have collectibles and a Red Brick, or just WayneTech caches, or any combination of the three, to find. This ensures you don’t waste time looking for collectibles that aren’t even there.
2
Access Radio Towers With Batgirl
You’ll unlock Batgirl in Chapter 4 of the main story. One of her skills is being able to hack into computer systems. This is one of the most valuable gadgets/skill combos in the game, since it means you can access radio towers throughout Gotham City. Most radio towers are close to the SubWayne entrance in each zone. If you’re having trouble, get to the top of a tall tower and look around. Radio towers are easy to spot because of their height and flashing lights.
Using Batgirl, access the radio tower’s system. This will reveal all the collectibles and challenges in that specific zone of Gotham City. This makes reaching 100% completion so much easier, because you can then pin each collectible and challenge to highlight it and find it more easily. If you’re looking to 100% the game, this is one of the most valuable things you can unlock, so don’t save it until later.
1
Unlock Stud Upgrades First
While accessing the radio towers are important, the only mechanic that is more vital to getting 100% completion in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is having the studs to buy everything. You’ll need studs to buy Batsuits and other costumes at Bat-mite’s shop. You’ll need studs to purchase new vehicles in the Batcave. You’ll need studs to buy decorations and to unlock all the Batcave expansions (which has a trophy/achievement connected to it as well).
Because of this, be sure to unlock the upgrades first that are directly tied to studs. Some increase the multiplier, some make it fill faster, and some slow down its depletion. Others help you gain studs when you do specific combat moves or takedowns. Studs are directly or indirectly tied to many trophies and achievements in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, so if you want to speed things along, find the upgrades that help you get more studs first and foremost.
