When it comes to iconic villains, Sephiroth is most definitely high on the list. First introduced back in 1997 with the launch of Final Fantasy VII, he quickly became synonymous with the series as a whole, with his entire character being inspired by the movie Jaws, allowing players to feel the fear of meeting him long before he appears on-screen.
Although Sephiroth’s main role is in Final Fantasy VII, he has also appeared in many Final Fantasy spin-offs and crossovers. However, fans were lucky enough to see a new and improved version of the villain back in 2020 with the launch of the Final Fantasy VII Remake as well as its sequel, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Now with the iconic antagonist back in the spotlight, it seems as though Sephiroth is back to his old tricks of appearing in some other iconic games as he will become the first villain to join the roster of Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy.
Available for a limited time and arriving just yesterday, 26 May, Sephiroth can be earned as a Normal Season reward simply by playing the game. However, it is worth noting that he will only be available to add to your roster until 29 June, so you had better hurry.
Released back in March, Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy is a spin-off of the Square Enix Final Fantasy franchise. In the fighting game, which also features action RPG elements, players are able to pick between various Final Fantasy characters who must go head-to-head in a “3vs3 Team Boss Battle Arena.” Releasing to mainly positive reviews, Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy marks the fifth Dissidia title and has been praised for its gameplay and combat mechanics, whilst its gacha elements have caused controversy.
However, this is the perfect way for Final Fantasy fans to get more of their favorite characters, and now, Sephiroth will be joining the fray as the first ever villain. Wielding his Masamune sword, Sephiroth joins the roster as a Ranged character who performs at his best when causing fire damage. He has the ability to counter with his Scintilla ability, and his unique abilities include R Hell’s Gate, SR Oblivion, UR Octaslash, and UR Super Nova.

In response to Sephiroth’s arrival to the game, fans took to the comments to share their thoughts on the iconic villain.
“I hate to admit it, he does look good in casual clothes,” one user pointed out. “At least they are lore accurate: “Whereever Cloud goes, Sephiroth is not too far off behind him,” another joked.
With many seemingly loving Sephiroth’s Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy design and appreciating that he will never give Cloud a moment of peace, it seems as though this latest crossover event is being received well, but make sure to take advantage of it before 29 June!
