Batman & Wolverine Will Face Off Later This Year

Superhero icons Batman and Wolverine will unexpectedly go toe-to-toe later this year in a serendipitous DC versus Marvel showdown. The two comic book giants are regularly compared, and the Caped Crusader and Logan are among the most recognizable characters in their respective stables.

The recent PlayStation State of Play on June 2 reconfirmed that the long-awaited Marvel’s Wolverine is releasing later this year. It has been almost five years since it was announced in 2025, and the Insomniac Games effort will be the first game centered solely around Wolverine for quite some time. It’s only fitting that a game starring Batman is mounting a comeback around the same time.

LEGO Batman Returns To Rival Marvel’s Wolverine In September

Marvel’s Wolverine lands on PlayStation 5 on September 15 (and that’s where it will probably stay with a PC port now unlikely), and three days later, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight comes to Nintendo Switch 2 on September 18. The latest LEGO Batman, from Traveller’s Tales, already released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in May – the Switch 2 version just needed some extra time in the oven.

Legacy of the Dark Knight released to very positive reviews for its approachable, comedic take on the beloved Batman: Arkham formula. Like many previous LEGO games, it’s also a great co-op experience, though split-screen is unfortunately the only multiplayer option. There is no online play. With the Switch 2’s reputation as a great couch co-op device, the new LEGO Batman could potentially see a second spike in interest in September.

Friendly Competition Between Marvel & DC In September

Since each release in September is for a single platform – not to mention one is a belated port – there’s really not much direct competition between Marvel’s Wolverine and LEGO Batman in September. In fact, the former is almost assuredly going to be the more successful release of the week. Insomniac’s Spider-Man games are incredibly popular, the PS5 has a significant user base, and Wolverine has been one of the more anticipated PlayStation games for half a decade.

But it’s still fun seeing these two monolithic characters go head-to-head. LEGO Batman has become a great character in his own right, even if Legacy of the Dark Knight has a new Bruce Wayne actor, while Marvel’s Wolverine‘s version of Logan is brand-new with a wealth of potential. It’s shaping up to be a huge year for superheroes in gaming, with September an unexpectedly busy month. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight and Marvel’s Wolverine will face off in a few months’ time, and it’s a singular win for players.
