Last week the 52nd Annual American Music Awards was held in Las Vegas, and the award for Artist of the Year went to… BTS!

But there’s more to the story. BTS’ history with the AMAs goes all the way back to 2017 when they made their American debut at the 45th annual ceremony. That performance was a major milestone in their journey that introduced BTS to Western audiences and set the stage for their global success.

This episode of Stanning BTS is all about the history of BTS at the AMAs, and it’s something near and dear to Kayla and Bethany’s hearts. In fact, you’ll hear Kayla tell you all about the BTS-themed party she threw on AMA night in 2017, celebrating their American debut. Join us as we take a nostalgic trip through BTS’ history with the AMAs, from their groundbreaking performance of “DNA” at the 2017 AMAs to winning Favorite Social Artist the following three years in a row… and of course, becoming the first Asian act to win the prestigious Artist of the Year award back in 2021.

There’s more to this episode than nostalgia, as we also take a look at this year’s AMAs where BTS was awarded Song of the Summer, Best Male K-Pop Artist, and of course Artist of the Year, beating out industry giants like Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars. And while it’s true that we’d still be stanning BTS even without the industry recognition, it never hurts to have a major awards program validate something that ARMY already knew… BTS is the best, and 2026 is their year (so make sure to get tickets to see them on tour!).

Check out the latest episode of Stanning BTS and be sure to subscribe and review wherever you listen. ARMY faithful can also pick up the Stanning BTS T-shirt, now available in two colors at the Consequence Shop. And as always, check out all the great shows on the Consequence Podcast Network!
