Despite what Olivia Rodrigo said on her most recent single, sometimes, it actually will be the Cure. At a surprise set at Primavera Sound Barcelona last night, Rodrigo brought out Robert Smith to perform a new duet with the band’s frontman, “What’s Wrong With Me.” Watch them perform the song, which marks Rodrigo’s first original collaboration, below.
“This song is special to me for so many reasons, but primarily because it’s my first song I’ve ever done a feature on, which is really exciting,” Rodrigo told the crowd before performing “What’s Wrong With Me” for the first time. “I can’t believe that this song exists with the person it exists with, and I’m just so fucking over the moon.”
Smith and Rodrigo’s first official collaboration has been a long time coming. Rodrigo has not been shy about expressing her adoration for the singer, calling him a “personal hero of mine” before bringing out Smith to perform “Just Like Heaven” and “Friday I’m In Love” at Glastonbury last year. The lead single from her new album, You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love, “Drop Dead,” also references “Just Like Heaven.”
The Cure also performed at Primavera Sound this weekend, breaking out a number of live rarities for their first public performance since 2024. The show also marked their first show since the death of guitarist and keyboardist Perry Bamonte in December of last year.
You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love is due out on June 12. After the release, Rodrigo will embark on a world tour, which will run from September all the way through spring 2027.
