Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is kicking up quite a storm, and it’s only been announced for a few days. As the confirmed third part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake project, this Q1/Q2-bound project will finally settle the score with Sephiroth, and give us an all-new ending to the FF7 saga.
There’s certainly a lot of expectations riding on the conclusion, but given how much goodwill the first two games have already offered, it’s possible that this could be the wildest ride yet.
We sat down with Final Fantasy 7 Revelation co-director Naoki Hamaguchi at Summer Game Fest (SGF) to talk all things Final Fantasy 7, but first, we had to get the scoop on Chadley.
For those of you unaware, Chadley is a character from the Final Fantasy 7 Remake universe that serves as a researcher for the party. Using Shinra resources, he aims to help Cloud’s group in any way he can, including providing a materia shop, and VR simulated boss fights. The reaction from fans has been polarizing to say the least, with some loving the character, and others finding him annoying.
Wanting to get Hamaguchi’s take, I broached the subject of Chadley in our interview. Hamaguchi-san started laughing out loud at the question, and had quite a bit to say about the intrepid researcher.
“Yes, we’re fully aware of the Chadley [fandom],” Hamaguchi states while laughing. “We’re aware at the feedback and reception for Chadley. If you look at Rebirth he was the kind of guy who shows up everywhere you go, and that annoyed some users [laughs].”
Hamaguchi continues: “We also recognize some positive reception, and how some people want Chadley as a playable character. Because of that, early on, we knew that we didn’t want to give him a similar role in Revelation as he did in Rebirth.”
“He’ll still be a supporting character, but he will have a different way he’ll be presented throughout the game. So he’ll be integrated into the story, and will have his own story moments as well, and there will be some surprising elements for him, so we hope fans look forward to that aspect.”
So there you have it. Chadley will be integrated into Revelation, and fans of his will still have a lot to look forward to. Could Chadley make the jump from Final Fantasy 7 to Dissidia one day? Stay tuned.
