Apple TV has another hit on its hands with Widow’s Bay, and it’s now time to look ahead to season 2. The horror-comedy series, created by Katie Dippold, is set in the titular New England island town, where the residents are wholly accustomed to terrible things happening. Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) hopes to change that, positioning Widow’s Bay as the “next Martha’s Vineyard” and eagerly welcoming tourists. The trouble is, those terrible happenings, such as soul-stealing fogs and murderous mythological sea monsters, are all the result of a very real curse.

Widow’s Bay season 1 perfectly establishes this haunting yet hilarious tale, wrapping up with a spectacular twist in the finale aired on June 17, 2026. The series, which has been hailed as the best of the year so far, holds an impressive 97% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, followed by a 93% audience score. It’s a very easy sign that Widow’s Bay is going places. Precisely where is still uncertain, but we at least know that a sophomore season of this comedy-horror is on the way.

Widow’s Bay Season 2 Is Confirmed

Apple TV officially gave the green light on Widow’s Bay season 2 ahead of the finale for its debut season. The company’s head of programming, Matt Cherniss, expressed his excitement over the show’s success (via Apple), praising every “eerie mystery, unexpected laugh, and cursed secret.” He additionally noted the exceptional audience reaction to the series, stating that Apple “can’t wait to return for another season.”

Apple TV has established a multiyear deal with Dippold, suggesting that the company expects Widow’s Bay to continue for several more installments. Precisely when any of these seasons will hit the streaming platform is still uncertain. Given the horror-fantasy elements of Widow’s Bay, we can likely expect at least a two-year wait, placing a season 2 premiere around the summer of 2028.

There are currently no official cast details for Widow’s Bay season 2. However, season 1 ended with the reveal that Tom Loftis’ son, Evan (Kingston Rumi Southwick), is the last living descendant of the island’s founder, Richard Warren, and is therefore the key to ending the man’s dark pact. This guarantees that these characters will return for Widow’s Bay season 2, therefore suggesting that both Rhys and Southwick will step back into their roles. Of course, given the show’s emphasis on character-driven comedy, they won’t be the only ones.

Actors Stephen Root (Wyck) and Kate O’Flynn (Patricia) have garnered particular praise for their performances in Widow’s Bay, with both their characters standing out as fan favorites. Of course, this quirky island town wouldn’t feel the same without Tom’s other colleagues, including Dale Dickey’s Rosemary and Jeff Hiller’s Dale. While Widow’s Bay season 2 is likely to introduce new cast members and characters, the return of these central figures is an easy assumption.

Widow’s Bay Season 2 Story Details

The ending of Widow’s Bay season 1 makes a handful of continued story details quite certain. Richard Warren’s evil pact with the island is not yet resolved, so the horrors are sure to continue into the coming episodes. Dippold has teased that “season 2 is about how everything is great on the island and there’s nothing to worry about,” suggesting that Tom will jump right back into his denial regarding his home’s curse. Of course, his determination is sure to fall apart as the island continues to demand human sacrifice from the people of Widow’s Bay.

Director and executive producer Hiro Murai has teased the expected format and approach for Widow’s Bay season 2, emphasizing that the ending of season 1 allows the series to reset to an anthology approach, with new horrors and obstacles established in each episode. However, we can still count on that overarching story as Tom attempts to keep the truth about Evan’s ancestry a secret. See Murai’s full quote below:

What I love about the show is that it can do both. It can do the season arc lore stories, also drop down into bottle episodes where you can just watch episodes out of order. And so what I love about how the season concluded is that it resets the table so you can do small, episodic, anthology episodes again, but there’s the added complication that Tom knows about Evan, he has to protect him from getting out to the rest of the island that he is the last descendant. Bechir and him have a secret together. They both know that they went to Ruth’s to kill her. And so there’s a complicated dynamic there. I just think it just ratchets up what works in the show, what’s been working in the first season, without changing the dynamics.

As we are likely a couple of years out from Widow’s Bay season 2’s premiere, it should be quite a while before Apple TV provides any concrete story details or trailers. However, this horror-comedy series has a clear direction and hook, making the foundation of the continued story fantastically reliable. This is sure to be layered with further twists and turns, giving us plenty to look forward to as Widow’s Bay season 2 inevitably takes us for another exceptional ride.
