The BBC is undergoing a massive change.
According to multiple reports, the BBC is undergoing a deep overhaul, which includes multiple show cancellations, deep budget cuts, and a plethora of layoffs across its major divisions. The BBC is the UK’s premium public service broadcaster, producing everything from news to documentaries to BBC original TV shows, including serving as the co-founder of streaming service BritBox. As of writing, the company is currently directed by former Google executive Matt Brittin, who was appointed in May 2026 following the resignation of former director Tim Davie after an editorial bias scandal last year.
Now, a multitude of reports have arrived detailing the BBC’s long-term plans to reduce staff and save money under major financial pressure. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the broadcaster plans to cut 550 jobs under News, Nations and Content by the end of the current financial year. Deadline reports that this will only be the start, with Brittin’s team eyeing between 1,800 to 2,000 total job cuts over the next three years. This is while reducing yearly content spending by £80 million ($107 million) over two years. In the company’s corporate sector, another 700 jobs are expected to be cut.
More to come…
