Warning: Spoilers Ahead for Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol!

Akira Toriyama has consistently pulled out wild twists for the Dragon Ball multimedia franchise ever since its debut nearly 42 years ago, and the magic stays alive as the franchise carries his legacy into the future. His work created epic moments like Goku’s Super Saiyan debut, the Father-Son Kamehameha, and more, with future successor and Dragon Ball Super illustrator Toyotaro carrying this creativity in bold new directions for the manga. Now, as the new Dragon Ball Super anime gears up for its return, it’s time to get excited as it’s poised to adapt one of Toyotaro’s most absurd achievements in the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc.

For those who didn’t know, Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol marks the first arc primarily written and conceived by Toyotaro. It introduces a brand-new threat, planet-eater Moro, as he escapes from a 10 million year imprisonment. His ability to consume an entire planet’s worth of energy at a time, boosting his power, giving him longevity, and even altering his appearance, all make him to be the toughest foe the Z-Fighters had faced yet. Naturally, Goku would have to pull out the big guns in the climactic final chapters of the arc, but in doing so, he’d introduce a new technique seemingly straight out of Naruto’s Uchiha clan.

Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol Introduces A Massive Spin On Ultra Instinct

Despite a valiant effort by the reassembled Z-Fighters, now deputized as part of the Galactic Patrol to stem the tides of Moro and his fellow escaped inmates, things weren’t looking great in Dragon Ball Super as the villain pulled out his nastiest trick. After absorbing the power of another new character from the arc, the Angel Merus, Moro grows at an uncontrollable rate despite an enormous capacity for power absorption. Goku points to it as a learning moment for Moro, who took on this power without honing his body to accept it properly, collapsing and instead merging with Earth’s surface itself, threatening the planet and surrounding galaxy.

10 Things Dragon Ball Super: Galactic Patrol Arc Must Do for Anime Fans

Discover the top 10 moments from the Dragon Ball Super Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc that the upcoming anime adaptation must capture to thrill fans.

With Goku soon being captured and having his power drained, Vegeta uses his Forced Spirit Fission to gather the power of the Z-Fighters and young Uub to empower Goku, whereafter he achieves his Perfected Ultra Instinct (Giant Form), a massive avatar of ki. Shonen anime fans will immediately note its resemblance to other massive constructs, such as the Susanoo unleashed by the Mangekyo Sharingan in Naruto. The form resembles a massive energy-based version of Goku which is able to overpower the gargantuan Moro, enabling Goku’s main body to punch through and shatter Moro’s absorption crystal, winning the fight.

It’s an absurd, god-tier ability among a showcase of amazing character and combat moments in Dragon Ball Super. It is also not the only appearance of Goku’s Susanoo-like Giant Form Ultra Instinct, with the subsequent Granolah the Survivor Arc promising similarly glorious moments. The crazy bit is, though, even as Goku unveils this in the eleventh hour like Kakashi Hatake in Naruto’s final arc as he helps take down Kaguya Otsutsuki while unveiling the Susanoo granted by Obito Uchiha’s eyes, it’s arguably not even the best moment in the arc.

Goku’s Big Moment Is One Of Several Upcoming Memorable Scenes In Dragon Ball Super

While a kaiju battle for the fate of Earth and the galaxy is certainly a visually spectacular promise, there are plenty other moments in this Dragon Ball Super arc which will be satisfying to witness. Vegeta fans will be pleased to learn this is possibly the arc with his greatest character moments in the franchise, with key training unlocking incredible new potential with Forced Spirit Fission. Even Yamcha, the longest-running franchise gag even non-Dragon Ball fans know, gets a moment which clarifies he’s still more than capable as one of Earth’s mightiest human defenders.

Goku’s big moment in the climactic showdown with Moro is rather typical of Dragon Ball, serving up the most bombastic finale to its poster-child as usual. But it’s also far from the only draw to the arc that longtime readers are particularly excited to see animated. It’s got great supporting characters, it remains conscious of the franchise’s history while pushing its biggest stars forward, and brand-new standouts will become instant fan-favorites as well, like Merus. Regardless of whether fans are craving big fights, great speeches, or pre-existing worlds getting more exposure than ever, Dragon Ball Super’s new anime has it all, and it’s coming soon.
