GTA 6 Will Officially Be Unplayable For Many Gamers On November 19

In case you missed all of the excitement yesterday, fans were finally given a tidbit of additional information about Grand Theft Auto VI to get stuck into, ahead of its release in November. New images were released, the price of the game was revealed, and at least two versions of the game were confirmed.

Excitement was quickly replaced by controversy, though, with many fans unhappy at the fact that several major stores, and even a mission, would be locked behind the Ultimate Edition. That wasn’t the only point of contention, though, and there are plenty of fans out there who may not even be able to get on the game at all.

GTA 6 Launching Without A Disc Is Very Bad News

Arguably the biggest sticking point of the bunch is that GTA VI is set to launch without a disc in either of its versions, replaced by a code to download the game. For some, this is an inconvenience or a disappointment (particularly for those who specifically collect physical games), but for others, it could be a disaster.

There are plenty of people out there who simply don’t have consistent access to the internet at home, heading out to public spots when they need access. The issue with those public spots is that the speed is often poor, or prevents downloading of large files, leaving someone who wants to play the game out in the proverbial cold.

That’s not to mention the even larger number of people who do have some form of internet, but at very basic speeds. Assuming that GTA clocks in at the size that we assume it must, those people could effectively be left out of the party when November rolls around as well. If you roll in the PC-only players to that equation as well, and you’re quickly looking at a difficult situation for many.

GTA VI is going to be an enormous success, regardless of issues like the one above, but the lack of a disc in different versions of the game really should be called out before it becomes entirely standard. There may well have been practicalities around the size of the game and getting it onto discs, but if any company has the funds and technical nous to work around that in the world of video games, then it really should be Rockstar.
