Six people were hospitalized following Angine de Poitrine‘s free outdoor concert at the Montreal International Jazz Festival on Saturday, June 27th, after emergency responders treated multiple attendees during one of the event’s largest gatherings in recent memory.

According to Montreal emergency services, paramedics responded to 10 people during the performance at Place des Festivals. Six were transported to nearby hospitals, while four others declined treatment. Officials said the incidents stemmed from a combination of heat-related illness, intoxication, and falls, adding that none of the injuries were considered life-threatening.

The medical emergencies came as the anonymous Quebec duo drew one of the largest crowds in the history of the Montreal International Jazz Festival. Organizers said Place des Festivals reached capacity roughly 30 minutes before the free show began, marking the festival’s biggest turnout since Stevie Wonder’s celebrated 2009 appearance.

Aerial footage shared online captured the scale of the gathering, showing Place des Festivals packed as concertgoers appeared to spill into surrounding streets. Filmed from high above downtown Montreal, the videos showed tens of thousands of fans stretching well beyond the main concert area, many dressed in the band’s signature black-and-white polka dots and flashing triangle hand signs as they waited for the duo to take the stage.

The turnout reflects the duo’s rapid ascent. After years cultivating a devoted following across Quebec, Angine de Poitrine broke through internationally earlier this year when their KEXP session went viral, introducing audiences around the world to the band’s distinctive blend of microtonal rock, progressive music and surreal performance art. The momentum has since carried into the release of Vol. II, an expanding international tour and even rumors of a Russian copycat act that has since been debunked.

Saturday’s performance had been billed as one of the marquee free events of this year’s festival, with organizers announcing ahead of showtime that the accessible viewing area had reached capacity. Neither festival organizers nor emergency officials have indicated that a crowd crush or other single incident caused the hospitalizations, instead attributing them to separate medical emergencies that occurred throughout the evening.

Angine de Poitrine’s North American tour continues with Canadian festival appearances throughout July before the duo returns to the United States on August 14th for Field of Vision in Buena Vista, Colorado. They will then launch a string of headlining West Coast dates with stops in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Portland.
