One aspect of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced that saw the biggest overhauls has easily been the reworked Animus Hub mechanics, which have replaced the playable modern-day sections of the original Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. It isn’t just the story presentation that’s changed, either, as Black Flag Resynced has also introduced several life-service features that add more collectibles and goodies for players to unlock while exploring.

Although these systems can be a little confusing at first if you haven’t played Assassin’s Creed Shadows, where the Animus Hub system was first introduced, knowing how each system works together can get you some excellent and exclusive rewards with only a minimal amount of effort on your part.

What Are Synchronization Points & Data Fragments In Black Flag Resynced

The very first thing you should know about the updated Animus Hub changes in Black Flag Resynced comes from your ongoing projects, which can be accessed by pausing the game and going to the Animus section, or from the main menu on the memory screen. These projects act similarly to a battle pass, where completing a rotating series of limited-time objectives will grant you Data Fragments to spend in each project.

Black Flag Resynced’s Animus Hub is a live service offering that plans to add additional content and rewards over time.

Once you’ve obtained enough fragments to move to the next tier, you can claim it in your currently active project to progressively unlock its tiered rewards. One important thing to note is that these rewards are not only limited to Black Flag Resynced itself, but are also shared with Assassin’s Creed Shadows, regardless if you own the game or not.

If you don’t own Assassin’s Creed Shadows or have no interest in the rewards tied to the game, I would recommend selecting Eye in the Dark as your first project, since it is the only current project where the Final Reward is a skin available in Black Flag Resynced. Despite this, the other projects also offer additional Black Flag-related rewards that you might want to consider swapping between to unlock, rather than dedicating all of your points to a single project.

Swapping between projects does not remove your progress within them and picks up where you left off when activated again.

While the original Black Flag also included Data Fragment collectibles, they have instead been replaced by a limited currency known as Synchronization Points, which are found scattered throughout the game world and can be obtained through completing certain feats and story-related milestones within the Animus menu.

Where To Find Animus Keys, Caches, and Quests In Black Flag Resynced

    • Black Flag Synchronization Keys
    • Black Flag Resynced data cache
    • Black Flag Resynced local event anomly

There are three distinct types of Animus-related collectibles you can encounter naturally while exploring the world of Assassin’s Creed Resynced, which come in the form of collectible Animus Keys, Animus Caches, and limited-time objectives known as ‘Anomalies’ that grant Data Fragments upon completion.

The first two you can find in the images above, which you have to physically walk up to and collect, which often become visible on the map after using a nearby Vantage Point to scout out an area. Each area will typically only have one batch of Animus Keys for 30 Synchronization points each, while Data Caches are scattered around less commonly and unlock digital text logs when collected.

You can check in on your current Data Fragment quests from the Anomalies section of your Projects, as well as on the map from the second image above as well, which typically have standard objectives like destroy a ship, search a chest, hunt a wild animal, among a few others during each limited window.

All Animus Exchange Rewards In Black Flag Resynced

While you’ll be regularly checking in with your Projects to spend Data Fragments on exclusive rewards, Synchronization Points are spent in a separate menu of the Animus directly for each reward you choose. It is also important to note that you won’t gain these points automatically when completing milestone challenges, as you’ll need to manually claim them before spending your points on the following weapons and cosmetics that are currently available.

    • Connor’s Outfit — 3000 Points
    • Altair’s Swords — 1500 Points
    • Ezio’s Swords — 1500 Points
    • Naoe’s Shadowblade — 1500 Points
    • Dark Animus Corsair Hull — 800 Points
    • Dark Animus Corsair Figurehead — 800 Points
    • Scarred Rigging — 600 Points
    • Storm’s End Sails — 600 Points

It is important to note as well that the various pre-order editions and microtransactions do not currently offer an alternative way to obtain Synchronization Points, as they can only be obtained through in-game challenges or as a Project reward in exchange for spending Data Fragments.

What Are Rifts In Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced

Entering an Animus Rift in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced

Despite removing the original modern-day Animus sections from Black Flag Resynced, Ubisoft instead offers 4 distinct Rift quests in the remake for you to play on your own accord. These Rifts are entirely optional quests that offer a narrative experience showing potential ‘what if’ scenarios for Edward and his companions throughout the game.

On top of the unique story presentation, each of these rifts also offers a significant amount of in-game rewards like money and trade-in goods, making them well worth the effort even if you aren’t too interested in its alternative history premise.

Tying in more closely with the themes of synchronization and the overarching narrative in the real-world tied to the Animus, these Rifts have additional content that aims to satisfy fans disappointed by the removed Animus segments from the original Black Flag, while offering a brand-new experience for both returning fans and new players coming to Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced for the very first time.
