Three of the most popular free DLC packs for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt were known as Alternative Looks and they changed the in-game outfits for Ciri, Triss, and Yennefer. The Witcher 3: Complete Edition includes the Alternative Looks DLC (along with some of the best paid DLC expansions in gaming history) but the player needs to actively switch the costumes on in order to see them in-game.

While most of the DLC for The Witcher 3 allows players to find the new content out in the world by simply adding it in to existing or new areas, Witcher 3’s Alternative Looks DLC is less complicated. Anyone looking to change Yennefer, Triss, or Ciri’s appearance only needs to do so from the proper place on the game’s menu screen.

In order to use Witcher 3’s Alternative Looks DLC for Ciri, Triss, and Yennefer, the player needs to manually activate them one by one. To change outfits, go to the Gameplay tab in the main menu and scroll to the bottom of the list. The Alternative Look DLCs are selected individually, so the player is free to mix and match them with the default outfits. This means a player can change Yennefer’s outfit in Witcher 3 without changing Ciri’s look at all, or vice versa.

When activated, the in-game character models for Ciri, Triss, and Yennefer are changed. Ciri starts wearing a stylish suit of chainmail, Triss wears a set of green robes with an intricate golden inlay, while Yennefer sports a black dress. When they originally released from May to July in 2015, these new outfits turned out to be a hit with players and became the subject of many Witcher 3 cosplay outfits around the world.

After the success of The Witcher Netflix show, additional DLC was added which provided a brand-new quest and new Netflix-based alternate appearances in Witcher 3. Much like changing outfits for Ciri or Triss, players can activate an alternate Dandelion appearance and a new type of Nilfgaardian armor from the game’s menu.

Dandelion will sport a decidedly less bombastic green tunic and ditch the goatee, while the Nilfgaardians will adopt the infamous wrinkly armor from the first season of the Netflix show. I’m honestly not sure why you’d want to choose either of these over the original looks, but the option is there if you really want it.

Geralt also received some free DLC between the original launch of Witcher 3 and the new Complete Edition, but his new looks aren’t found in the menu. To unlock Geralt’s Netflix armor, you actually have to take on a quest. The next-gen update for The Witcher 3 added a fantastic, fully-voiced quest called In The Eternal Fire’s Shadow. To start, you’ll need to head to the Devil’s Pit in Velen, just southeast of the Hanged Man’s Tree. A short dungeon and a surprisingly tough boss fight will trigger a new quest: a scavenger hunt to find the Forgotten Wolf School Gear. Like every other treasure hunt for armor sets in The Witcher 3, you simply have to travel to the points marked on the map and track down the crafting recipes for each individual item in the set. It’s a little more effort than just changing an option in a menu, sure, but it’s worth it.
