Prime Video’s 3-Hour Series With No Weak Episodes Is 2026’s Best Comedy

While Prime Video is famous for its “Dad TV” shows (Reacher, Jack Ryan, Bosch) and coming-of-age romance series (Off Campus, Every Year After, The Summer I Turned Pretty), they aren’t recognized nearly enough for their comedies. This is especially a shame because the streaming platform is home to 2026’s best comedy series thus far.

I’m not talking about Prime Video’s Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer-starring buddy cop show Ride or Die either. Rather, Bait, a British series created by and starring Riz Ahmed, debuted on Prime Video in March 2026 to precious little fanfare, which is a bit surprising considering its inventive, larger-than-life premise.

In the show, Ahmed plays Shah Latif, a dashing British Pakistani actor who has the opportunity to become the next James Bond. In the days leading up to the audition, Shah faces intense public scrutiny, tumultuous family relationships, and even an existential crisis. With all six episodes available to stream, Bait season 1 is not only a perfect three-hour binge, but also the best Prime Video series you haven’t watched yet.

Bait Could Be The Most Overlooked Show Of 2026

From Austin Powers to Johnny English, James Bond parodies tend to be reliable crowd-pleasers, making the underseen Bait an outlier. However, while these other aforementioned titles keep things fun and silly, Bait is much darker and more surreal.

With this in mind, Bait‘s trailer, which leans heavily on the show’s action sequences and entertainment industry satire, is somewhat misleading. Audiences who were sold on a light 007 spoof may have been turned off that Bait is more like Barry than The Studio. However, while less broad than presented, Bait‘s comedy is as brilliant as it is hilarious, even if it’s not quite everybody’s cup of tea.

There’s also the fact that Bait released all six of its episodes at once, which is par for the course for inaugural seasons of Prime Video shows. This strategy can work brilliantly if the series makes a big splash, but if not enough viewers tune in right away, it can fade into obscurity without weekly rollout episodes to generate more word-of-mouth excitement.

Bait also had a lot of competition on Prime Video when it premiered on March 25 of this year. Debuting earlier that month were the starrier, Nicole Kidman-led mystery thriller Scarpetta and Guy Ritchie’s buzzy series about another beloved fictional Brit, Young Sherlock. Throw in The Boys‘ final season premiering in early April, and it was just too difficult for Bait to stand out.

Bait’s Mashup Of Genres Is Entirely Original

While it’s hard to find a better Hollywood satire series than The Studio, not only does Bait rival Seth Rogen’s Emmy-winning hit, but it also deserves major points for successfully blending its lampooning with several other genres. The Studio may show the taxing, often abusrd work of what goes into moviemaking, but its characters rarely step outside the glamorous Tinseltown bubble of parties, premieres, and awards shows.

Though Bait didn’t earn nearly as many Emmy nominations as The Studio, Riz Ahmed scored a nod for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.

On the other hand, for all its ribbing of all things 007, Bait is every bit as much a psychological kitchen sink drama. The glitzy world Shah is trying to break into is frequently juxtaposed with a decidedly less posh look at gritty, working-class London life, and how his fame often makes things harder for his family than easier.

Bait isn’t nearly as autobiographical as shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm. However, Ahmed directly drew from his experiences as a British Pakistani actor and the complications that can arise from getting cast in iconic, historically white Hollywood IP, like when he won the role of Bodhi Rook in 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Throw in a healthy dose of surreal, dark comedy, and Bait is unlike anything on TV — and that’s a good thing.
