The Lord of the Rings is filled with weird, wonderful and downright frightening creatures that feature in varying capacities across the length of the story, but some really do stand out in a crowded field. The Balrog springs to mind immediately after its epic confrontation with Gandalf the Grey, but though it is likely the most powerful individual evil entity (outside Sauron), it probably isn’t the most unsettling.
That infamy really feels like it goes to the Nazgul, or the nine fallen men to whom Sauron had given rings of power, before turning them into some of his most loyal servants. Much of that comes down to the appearance given to them by Peter Jackson, which is about to be immortalized in one of the most premium physical releases of the year.
Over on the Sideshow website, you can find the listing for the Nazgûl King Art Mask, a hyperrealistic 29″ polyresin, glass, and silicone bust. Specifically, the mask comes with the appearance that Frodo sees when he puts the One Ring on, the true physical form that lies underneath all of those black robes.
The figure is presumably the Witch King (though it isn’t confirmed in the films), and if you don’t think it’s too frightening to have it in your house, it really could be the ultimate centerpiece to a collection. The creators shared some insight into what fans can expect from the product, saying:
“Step into the shadow of Middle-earth and the Unseen with this premium Art Mask of the Nazgûl King, captured in his terrifying spectral form as he confronts Frodo. Inspired by the haunting scene at the ruins of Weathertop, this masterpiece embodies the chilling presence of the Ringwraith at the height of his menace.
“Crafted with exceptional realism, the mask features silicone skin, glass eyes, and individually hand-punched hair, delivering an unparalleled lifelike finish despite his wraithlike form. Every fold, texture and decaying detail has been meticulously sculpted to reflect his corrupted existence between worlds. The display support is designed as the Morgul blade planted into the castle ruins, recreating the dramatic moment of attack. A haunting centerpiece for collectors and fans of The Lord of the Rings.”
The pictures shown above are of an early prototype of the product, with the real thing expected to ship between April 2027 – June 2027. As you might expect, all of that exquisite detail doesn’t come cheap, and you’ll be looking at an outlay of $1305.
There’s plenty more for Lord of the Rings fans to be excited about moving forward as well, with Season 3 of Rings of Power on the way later this year. Not only that, but The Hunt for Gollum will also be on in 2027, and if that can be anything like as good as the trilogy, then it would be a huge moment for fantasy movies more generally.
