A slew of AI generated slop about Dolly Parton has motivated her sister, Stella Parton, to call out those “exploiting the loss.”
In a Friday social media post, Stella started by thanking people who have shown genuine love and support for her family after the country music legend’s death. But because of the Parton family’s public lives, “We have no choice but to be subjected to incredible pressure and insensitivity from strangers,” Stella said.
Stella addressed the volume of fake content that’s cropped up online purporting to be real statements from Dolly, saying, “There is a tremendous amount of AI and endless garbage being posted everyday and it’s been challenging to absorb and or ignore.” The country music singer’s sister condemned those making the AI garbage and wrote, “As time passes those who are in the business of exploiting the loss and tragedies of others on a daily basis will move on to the next stampede of endless information.”

Stella hinted at what people are using AI to generate about her sister, writing that Dolly “loved her fans and the public in general. That is the reason she chose not to express her opinions on a lot of things like politics, religion and individuals in the public eye.”
Stella continued, Dolly “knew as well as anyone what a negative vortex that could turn into which is nothing but a huge waste of positive energy.”
The country music star and cultural icon “was a positive influence to the world” and “used her music as a tool and a passion to move people in a positive way.”
Stella pleaded with people to follow Dolly’s example.
“I ask that you show more compassion and wisdom as we move forward in life. Use my sister’s life as an example for tolerance and respect towards others,” Stella wrote. “It’s not about the most clever comments, fake AI garbage or snarky tweets.”
Dolly Parton, who Consequence deemed “the rare artist loved by everyone,” died on August 25th at 80 years old after a brief battle with cancer, setting off national mourning, celebrations of her life and tributes from artists. A festival in her honor, DOLLYFEST, is in the works for Nashville and London.
