With the Star Trek universe celebrating its 60th anniversary earlier this month, it is no surprise that fans are planning on celebrating by immersing themselves into the sci-fi world in whatever way possible. Whether that means checking out upcoming television shows and movies, trading card games, or stunning collectibles, there is something for everyone, and this upcoming Star Trek: Picard prequel is no exception.

The Star Trek Universe Embraces Horror

Horror is not something that the Star Trek universe is accustomed to. Sure, there are dark themes explored, but a survival horror experience is new to the franchise. However, Star Trek: Shadow Frontier is set to change that, by offering “a story-driven, action-adventure set in the expansive Star Trek universe.”

Developed by Bloober Team and set after Star Trek: The Next Generation but before Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Shadow Frontier will see players step into the shoes of former Lieutenant Ro Laren as she attempts to rescue an old friend by embarking on a harrowing journey of survival and self-discovery. However, with her mind fractured, this will be no easy task.

It may not yet have a release window, but Star Trek: Shadow Frontier is already capturing fan’s attention, especially as Lieutenant Ro Laren will be played by none other than Michelle Forbes, but also because it aims to put a whole new spin on the Star Trek universe.

Star Trek As You Have Never Seen It Before

In the mature, 3rd person, action-adventure title, players can expect a horrifying environment home to a planet-wide entity which patrols the land and strikes without warning. As such, you will need to stop it from burrowing into Ro’s conscience and taking control. With haunted visions to combat, environmental hazards and obstacles to overcome, and exploration being your only hope of survival, you will need to utilize Star Trek technology to help turn the tides in your favor.

As the official synopsis for Star Trek: Shadow Frontier reads:

Star Trek: Shadow Frontier charts a bold new course for Star Trek: a mature, psychological action-adventure that honors the franchise’s core values of curiosity and courage. Venture with Ro Laren beyond the edge of charted space… and beyond the limits of sanity.

Balanced and varied gameplay blends exploration, puzzles, combat and cinematic set-pieces into a gripping, story-driven adventure that rewards patience, observation, and smart decision-making.

    Explore. Investigate. Survive.

Star Trek: Shadow Frontier is now available to add to your wishlist, and we will keep you updated on an official release date.
