    Amitabh Bachchan celebrates his birthday today, marking another year in an evergreen career that has spanned decades. Regarded as one of the most accomplished and revered actors in the Indian film industry, he has delivered several memorable performances over the years. On his birthday, we celebrate the powerhouse of talent and look back at his long-standing association with Filmfare. Here are the Filmfare Awards the actor has won for his films.

    Anand

    Amitabh Bachchan Filmfare Awards
    Amitabh Bachchan won his first Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for the 1971 film Anand starring Rajesh Khanna in the lead. The film also won the Filmfare Award for Best Film in 1972. While Rajesh Khanna was the soul of the film, Bachchan’s serious demeanour as the concerned doctor proved to be the perfect foil to Anand’s larger-than-life character.

    Namak Haraam

    Amitabh Bachchan Filmfare Awards

    Namak Haram fetched Big B his second Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award. Directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, the film also starred Rajesh Khanna, Rekha, Asrani, Raza Murad and Simi Garewal. Despite Rajesh Khanna’s leading-superstar status, Bachchan made his presence felt while sharing the screen with the reigning star.

    Amar Akbar Anthony

    Amitabh Bachchan Filmfare Awards

    Manmohan Desai’s Amar Akbar Anthony bagged several Filmfare Awards, including Best Actor (Amitabh Bachchan), Best Music Director and Best Editing. This was his first Filmfare Best Actor Award. Despite Vinod Khanna and Rishi Kapoor’s presence, Big B’s portrayal of Anthony stood out for both its comic and emotional moments.

    Don

    Amitabh Bachchan Filmfare Awards

    A cult classic Bollywood film, Don fetched Mr Bachchan the Filmfare Award for Best Actor in 1979. It was directed by Chandra Barot and starred Zeenat Aman, Pran, Iftekar, Om Shivpuri and Satyen Kappu. Bachchan played a double role but made them so distinct that it felt as though we were watching two different actors.

    Hum

    Amitabh Bachchan Filmfare Awards
    Hum received as many as 7 nominations at the 37th Filmfare Awards. The Mukul S Anand directorial bagged four awards, including the Filmfare Best Actor Award for Amitabh Bachchan. In the first half, he played the ferocious Tiger, while in the second half, he portrayed a meek patriarch with equal gusto.

    Mohabbatein

    Amitabh Bachchan Filmfare Awards
    The Aditya Chopra directorial saw two superstars – Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan come together on-screen along with an ensemble cast. Mohabbatein received 12 nominations and won 4 awards at the 46th Filmfare Awards and Big B won the award for Best Supporting Actor. The film marked a significant comeback for the actor, whom many had written off, but destiny had other plans.

    Aks

    Amitabh Bachchan Filmfare Awards

    Aks, a supernatural action thriller film by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, won three awards at the 47th Filmfare Awards and Amitabh Bachchan won the Best Actor (Critics) Award. The film saw Bachchan take on one of the boldest roles of his career until then, and his face-off with Manoj Bajpayee was particularly memorable.

    Black

    The story of the film was inspired by the life of Helen Keller and it went on to become a successful commercial Hindi film, receiving several accolades. Mr Bachchan won the Best Actor Award and Best Actor (Critics) Award at the 51st Filmfare Awards. Through his performance, he brought out Helen Keller’s never-give-up philosophy and deservedly took home both acting honours.

    Paa

    With the film Paa, we saw Amitabh Bachchan break several barriers. The veteran actor played the role of a 12-year-old boy with a rare genetic condition. Playing the role of his father was Big B’s son Abhishek Bachchan. He received his fifth Filmfare Award for Best Actor for the R. Balki directorial. Close to 70 at the time, he convincingly portrayed a 12-year-old boy suffering from progeria, a rare genetic disorder that makes individuals age faster than usual. The actor looked like a child who has suddenly aged and convincingly pulled off the character of Auro.

    Piku

    Amitabh Bachchan Filmfare Awards
    A heartwarming tale of a father and daughter, Piku saw Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone in lead roles, along with Irrfan Khan, Jisshu Sengupta, Moushumi Chatterjee and Raghubir Yadav. The Shoojit Sircar directorial received 8 nominations at the 61st Filmfare Awards, and Amitabh Bachchan received the Best Actor (Critics) award. cantacerous old man to perfectoion. see the glimpses of ones owsn parent in him.     Gulabo Sitabo

    Amitabh Bachchan Filmfare Awards
    Gulabo Sitabo is another Shoojit Sircar-Amitabh Bachchan collaboration where the latter played the role of an old miser. He bagged the Best Actor (Critics) Award for the film. It was a character few might have imagined him playing with such conviction, but he brought the greedy, eccentric landlord to life with remarkable ease.

    Lifetime Achievement Award

    The actor was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 1991.

    Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan jointly won the Filmfare Power Award at the 49th Filmfare Awards.

    Amitabh Bachchan won the Filmfare Special Award for completing 40 years in the Indian film industry at the 56th Filmfare Awards held in 2011.

    Superstar of the Millennium

    The megastar was crowned Superstar of the Millennium at the 45th Filmfare Awards held in 2000.

    Cine Icons of Indian Cinema

    Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan won the Honorary Cine Icons of Indian Cinema Award for the 1970s at the 70th Filmfare Awards.
