Clint Eastwood‘s $547 million war movie that’s one of his best is leaving Netflix next month, with only a short time left to watch it. Clint Eastwood has been responsible for plenty of classic films across various genres in his career. This includes everything from Westerns like the Dollars trilogy, to action movies like Heartbreak Ridge and In the Line of Fire. He’s also directed a number of noteworthy films across various genres throughout his career, including the Oscar-nominated Mystic River and his critically praised crime drama The Mule.

Eastwood is also no stranger to war movies, having directed and starred in a number of them across his career. This includes the 2006 World War II film Letters from Iwo Jima, which was nominated four times at the Oscars, including for Best Picture. That same year, he directed another war movie about the Battle of Iwo Jima, Flags of Our Fathers. While these are some of his most noteworthy war movies that he directed, they’re not the only ones. In fact, one of his best is still easy to watch on streaming — for now.

That movie is American Sniper, a 2014 biographical war drama about the life of Chris Kyle. Based on Kyle’s memoir of the same name, the movie stars Bradley Cooper as the Navy SEAL sniper. It documents his four tours in the Iraq War, including how he became the deadliest marksman in American history, as confirmed by the Department of Defense. The war movie documents how Kyle was celebrated for his skills on the battlefield, while also emphasizing the mental toll his own actions took on him.

American Sniper Is One Of Clint Eastwood’s Best Modern Movies

Out of all of Clint Eastwood’s modern movies, American Sniper is one of his best. For one, American Sniper reviews are generally positive, the movie scoring a Certified Fresh 71% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 302 critic reviews. It was also nominated for six Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay, while winning for Best Sound Editing. But aside from its critical praise and accolades, the movie tells the complex story of someone viewed as a war hero getting torn apart by his actions and what he was forced to go through while fighting for the United States.

The film doesn’t shy away from some difficult topics, particularly when it comes to the way war can mentally alter a person. This includes showcasing Kyle growing more distant from his family, while also emphasizing what his kills and losses did to his psyche. It’s a complex story that isn’t black and white, instead showcasing a form of turmoil that resonates because of how recent the Iraq War was in American history. Kyle’s story is but a lens to view the horrors of war, and what war does to those who keep going back to fight.

American Sniper is currently available to watch on Netflix, but the Cooper-led movie isn’t going to be there for much longer. According to What’s on Netflix, the movie will be leaving the platform on November 1, 2026. This means the last day to watch the war movie is October 31, 2026, before it’s gone from Netflix for good. It’s not available to watch on any other streaming service right now either.

With American Sniper only available for the next two weeks or so, now is the perfect time to watch it on Netflix. The Eastwood-directed movie is undeniably one of his best, capturing the horrors of war and the struggle one man hailed a hero had to deal with while going back into the fray over and over again. Thanks to its presentation, the movie is more than worth watching, and a testament to the career of its esteemed director.
