The Stargate franchise remains very popular with fans all over the world, despite largely disappearing from our screens quite a few years ago at this point. The original 1994 movie remains a cult classic (in contradiction to its enormous budget), and the many spin-off series that were released over the years have only built on that legacy further.

As such, it has been a bit of a shame to see it fade from the memories of some over the last decade or so, and it’s unfortunate that more aren’t taking a gamble on an IP that remains immensely popular in the grand scheme of things. That’s all about to change though, as a new release has been confirmed that finally brings Stargate back in a big way.

As first reported by Bleeding Cool, developer Slitherine Games has confirmed they are currently working on bringing their sci-fi strategy title Stargate: Timekeepers over to consoles. The game originally released back in 2024 as a PC exclusive, a real-time tactics game where you lead a team of specialists into the beloved world of SG-1.

Though it received mixed reviews at the time, a console release would be the perfect opportunity to fix the biggest issues it has, giving Stargate fans something to enjoy in the process. The official description for the game reads as follows, so fans know what to expect when it does drop on new hardware:

“Stargate: Timekeepers is a tactical game in which you lead a team of specialists through a story-driven campaign featuring an original narrative set in the Stargate SG-1 universe. Sneak a newly formed team behind enemy lines, use your characters’ unique skills, craft the perfect plan and defeat the Goa’uld threat.

“Stargate: Timekeepers departs from the end of season 7 of the Stargate SG-1 main plot to create an original story, unfolding over 14 narrative-rich missions. Your adventure starts during the Battle of Antarctica, where Commander Eva McCain and her team are supporting the SG-1 against Anubis’s fleet.

“Sometime later, Eva and her team of specialists are tasked with a new mission in the Stargate universe: help the Jaffa Resistance, prevent brutal rituals, strike against Moloc’s army, and seek an alliance with the Unas. Lead a team of specialists operating behind enemy lines. Use your characters’ unique skills to come up with perfectly synchronized plans to overcome Kull Warriors, Jaffa Generals, Moloc’s Officers and many new and original enemies.”

Interestingly, the development team still haven’t given us a release window beyond 2026, which is rapidly running out of days and months. With so little heard about it up to this point, don’t be surprised if there is a delay into the first half of next year.

At the same time, the very exciting news for Stargate fans is that a brand-new TV adaptation is on the way via Prime Video and led by creator Jac Schaeffer (of WandaVision fame). That follows the cancellation of a previous attempt from different sources at Amazon, so let’s hope this one has the legs to get over the finish line.
