The driver of a speeding Mercedes involved in an accident with actor Akshay Kumar’s security entourage has been taken into custody. The incident occurred on Monday evening near Silver Beach Cafe in Mumbai’s Juhu area. A case of rash and negligent driving was registered at the Juhu Police Station, following which the driver, identified as Radheshyam Rai, was held on Tuesday, as reported by ANI.
According to police reports, the Mercedes first hit an autorickshaw, which then crashed into Akshay Kumar’s security vehicle and subsequently into the actor’s SUV. Akshay Kumar and his wife Twinkle Khanna had just returned to Mumbai from a trip abroad at the time. While two people were injured in the collision, everyone involved, including the auto driver and passengers is safe.
Local residents said Akshay Kumar stepped out of his vehicle immediately after the accident to help the auto driver and passenger, who were briefly trapped under the security entourage vehicle. Sources also revealed that Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was attending an event near the accident site, which resulted in a crowd of bystanders and media presence. “It was scary to see the accident but thankfully everyone is safe,” an eyewitness said.
Meanwhile, the brother of the autorickshaw driver, Mohammed Sameer, requested compensation for the damage caused to the three-wheeler and urged that his brother receive proper medical treatment. He said the accident took place between 8 and 8.30 pm on Monday. “The entire rickshaw was destroyed, and my brother is in very serious condition. My only request is that my brother receives proper treatment and that compensation is provided for the damage to the rickshaw,” he told ANI.
