Alia Bhatt has added her voice to the growing chorus of praise for Yami Gautam Dhar’s powerful performance in Haq. The actor took to her Instagram Stories to share a still of Yami from the 2025 courtroom drama and wrote a glowing note calling her “pure craft, heart and all things gold” in the film. Alia went on to describe Yami’s work in Haq as “one of my top female performances of all time,” adding that she is eagerly looking forward to everything the actor does next.
Directed by Suparn Verma, Haq released in 2025 and starred Yami Gautam Dhar alongside Emraan Hashmi, with Sheeba Chaddha in a pivotal role. The film, inspired by the landmark Supreme Court judgement of Mohd. Ahmed Khan v. Shah Bano Begum, explored sensitive issues around marriage, maintenance and the rights of Muslim women. This portrayal has led to Yami receiving widespread acclaim for her restrained yet emotionally charged portrayal.
Yami herself had earlier expressed gratitude for the overwhelming response to Haq. In a note shared after the film’s release, she thanked audiences for giving the film “so much respect, integrity and honour,” and reflected on the pressures of the modern box-office ecosystem. “In this new era of multiple reviewers, trade analysts and benchmarks from day one, there came a small film of mine – Haq,” she wrote. Calling the love around the phrase “Yami ka haq” deeply moving, the actor added that the mystery of what truly validates an artist is what keeps her going. She concluded with a powerful sentiment: “Good cinema should win… good cinema shall win.”
Alia’s production house Eternal Sunshine Productions has also been making headlines for championing strong storytelling. Most recently, the banner took to Instagram to laud the runaway success of Dhurandhar, calling it “the voice and choice of today’s India” and celebrating the film for bringing audiences back to theatres in a big way.
On the work front, Alia Bhatt is currently gearing up for YRF’s Alpha. It is slated to be the first female-led film in the studio’s blockbuster spy universe, where she will be seen opposite Sharvari. She is also set to reunite with Sanjay Leela Bhansali for Love & War. She will be joined by Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.
