The Four Belfries in Elden Ring are located in Liurnia Of The Lakes, which serves as a hub or crossroads to the gates. Portals can be found at three of the Belfries, and they can be used to warp to an entirely different location in The Lands Between, some of which couldn’t be reached before. However, it isn’t very clear where each Four Belfries portal will take you.
To use the Four Belfries portals, players will need to unlock each one with an Imbued Sword Key in Elden Ring. At the highest point of the mountains where these portals are, you can find one of these keys with a Site of Grace, but the other two are elsewhere. Including the DLC, there are four total portals you can unlock with Sword Keys, with each leading to unique areas.
Imbued Sword Keys
Use The Right Items To Open New Gateways
Finding the four available Sword Keys requires a lot of searching, as well as besting some strong enemies to reach parts of the map where the items can be found. Some require that certain story progress is made to unlock the areas they’re in, forcing you to complete certain objectives first. These are typically big goals, such as defeating a major boss or exploring a much wider area to discover a lost secret.
The table below goes over where to find every Imbued Sword Key, as well as which location they’ll appear at and some hints for tracking them down:

The fourth
Imbued Sword Key is part of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in Elden Ring, and it cannot be found in just the base game. The Key is still somewhat simple to find, located within the prominent Castle Ensis that’s hard to miss on the DLC map. The Key lies at the top of the stairs in this Castle in the tower close to where you find an Exile Soldier guarding the area.
While most of the Keys can be gained in relatively straightforward ways, you will have to beat Moonrithyll Carian Knight before you reach the fourth one. As the odd one out, the fourth Key can only be used shortly after this encounter, but only after you also beat Rellana, Twin Moon Knight. This boss is one of the toughest in the DLC, so you’ll need to be prepared to take her down.
The fourth Imbued Sword Key cannot be used in the same place as the others. There are still only three portals available at the Four Belfries. The last portal is located just outside Castle Ensis, where you can use the last Key to teleport to another area in the DLC map.
To use any base game Key once you have them, go back to the other towers in the Four Belfries, which have portals in front of them with a blue Imp Statue. You can activate your Imbued Sword Key to open the portals and travel to new destinations.
While there is no stated location for each Belfrey, there is a clue on all three towers, giving you a vague hint of where it might lead. Most of these locations are inaccessible by any other means, acting as small previews of certain areas before you reach them at a later level. Furthermore, some contain some excellent loot for you to find, bolstering your character’s power with better gear.
Bottom Four Belfries Portal
“Crumbling Lands”
The lowest of the Four Belfries portals leads to
Crumbling Farum Azula, a ruined-looking area with buildings sunk into the ground, floating shards of rocks, and swirling tornadoes. Although this area is reachable (and mandatory) in Elden Ring’s late game, the Four Belfries portal takes players to a separate area of Crumbling Farum Azula, cut off from the rest of the region.
Using this portal is necessary to find Elden Ring’s Pearldrake Talisman, which can be used for 5% non-physical damage negation. For some boss fights, this item can be quite the gift, making this area worth traveling to with one of the first Imbued Stone Keys you find.
Middle Four Belfries Portal
“Night Sky Unceasing”
Going from bottom to top, the Four Belfries portal in the second location will take players to Nokron, Eternal City, another area Elden Ring players may or may not have already visited. However, like in Crumbling Farum Azula, the location Elden Ring’s Four Belfries portal takes players to is also cut off from the rest of the area.
In this part of Nokron, Eternal City, players can find the
Mottled Necklace, which boosts Focus, Robustness, and Immunity. There is also a lesser crucible knight that, unfortunately, doesn’t drop one of Elden Ring‘s many Incantations, but it can drop runes and the Crucible Horn Shield, which is excellent for any crucible knight build.
Top Four Belfries Portal
“Precipice of Anticipation”
The uppermost of Elden Ring’s Four Belfries portals takes players to the Chapel of Anticipation, which is the first area of the game. After defeating or losing to the Grafted Scion, this area is otherwise impossible to return to, making it the most exciting destination of all the Four Belfries portals.
Players can now take their revenge on the Grafted Scion if they want to see just how far they’ve come, and defeating this boss grants players runes, a Golden Beast Crest Shield, and an
Ornamental Straight Sword. All of these are great items for different builds, or at the very least some Runes to help your character level up.
Returning to the Chapel of Anticipation also grants access to several other important items that were previously unavailable, like the Stormhawk King, necessary for Nepheli’s quest chain, and Stormhawk Deenth, a spirit summon. While each portal leads to interesting locations, this is one that players should always take if they only have one Imbued Stone Key to spend.
The Shadow of the Erdtree Portal Location
Scadu Altus
The last portal location is not at the Four Belfries, but since an Imbued Sword Key still activates it, players will likely want to know where it is. After you defeat the main boss in Castle Ensis, Rellana, Twin Moon Knight, you will leave the castle and come to the Highroad Cross Site of Grace. You should be able to see the final Belfrey to your west at this point. Approach it and activate it like all the base game’s others.
As before, this will take you to an isolated area in a familiar location. This one is located within the Ancient Ruins of Rauh, where you can find the Verdigris Discus, one of the new Talismans in Elden Ring that raises your defense when carrying a lot of weight. Some builds will benefit from this item, especially with the wealth of new items found in the DLC.
You will also be able to fight the Divine Bird Warrior, who has a chance to drop various pieces of the Divine Bird Warrior Armor. This gear works very well with any Faith build in the game, making the final Belfry portal in Elden Ring worth traveling through once you know where it goes.
