The music industry and fans across the country were left in a state of disbelief earlier this week when Arijit Singh announced his retirement from playback singing. However, new reports have now emerged suggesting that the singer might be entering the political arena.
According to a report by NDTV, sources close to the development indicate that Arijit Singh is considering launching his own political party. The news comes after a social media post by Arijit on January 27, where he officially called it quits on his playback singing career.
While the specifics of his political ambitions are being kept strictly confidential, sources have revealed that Arijit has already begun the process of shifting his career focus toward the political field. Despite his massive success, Arijit is known for his incredibly modest lifestyle in his hometown of Jiaganj, Murshidabad, in West Bengal.
People within the Bengali film industry suggest that the singer is not looking to dive into major elections immediately. Reports indicate that he is unlikely to contest the 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections. Instead, he is reportedly considering starting at the grassroots level, perhaps contesting smaller, local elections before officially launching a full-scale political party.
The speculation about his political future comes just days after he posted a note for his fans and followers on social media. In his message, he wrote: “Hello, Happy new year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey.”
While he is stepping away from the film industry, he has clarified that he will continue to create independent music and learn more as an artist. As of now, there has been no official confirmation from Arijit Singh regarding the launch of a political party.
