In case you missed it, Ubisoft is currently undergoing a massive restructuring and has canceled six games, on top of additional delays. While Prince of Persia is the only named title, now, fans are concerned that the Assassin’s Creed franchise could be in trouble.
Ubisoft hasn’t publicly revealed all the games affected, but one of the cancellation criteria really stands out. Over on Reddit, Assassin’s Creed fans think they’ve figured it out.
Has Assassin’s Creed Jade Been Cancelled?
It Could Be The Canceled Mobile Game
Within the cancellation notices, Ubisoft singles out one game as a “mobile title” that was canceled. Now, fans are concerned that Assassin’s Creed Jade has been caught in the crossfire.
Originally slated for 2023, Assassin’s Creed Jade is a mobile release that has been continuously delayed. Jade allows players to play as a fully customizable assassin during the Qin dynasty era of China, circa 215 BCE. We’ve gotten a teaser for it and a closed beta announcement back in 2023, but that’s about it.
Fans are now starting to get worried, with one noting: “I find it weird that it still hasn’t been officially announced yet, and yet it was supposed to release in March? To my knowledge Ubisoft hasn’t done a shadow drop like Oblivion. To clarify, they typically announce the game at least a year before launch.”
Some fans aren’t so sure it’s Jade: “It’s not impossible, but if Jade was the cancelled mobile game I think they would have mentioned it, as Jade was already formally announced. That said, considering what is going on with that game, I wouldn’t be surprised if it does end up getting cancelled.”
Another person thinks Jade is being reworked into a console game, akin to something like Assassin’s Creed Mirage: “I still theorize that Jade is being remade to be a console game. Something tells me Tencent who now owns majority share in Vantage studios and already has made changes to development of the games already.”
We’ll find out what happened to it eventually. Ubisoft can keep games in development limbo for many years, but eventually, the reality always comes to light.
It’s Not Looking Good At Ubisoft
The Restructuring Is Drastic
Ubisoft is currently at a crossroads. CEO and founder Yves Guillemot has been trying to avoid a hostile takeover of Ubisoft for ages, but it’s not looking great for the company at the moment.
While they’re restructuring to focus on their core values (which apparently include open-world games and games-as-a-service titles), that doesn’t always work out for them. Sometimes, those types of projects also fail, and at that point, we could see even more industry layoffs.
For now, fans are worried about any and all spinoffs attached to their favorite franchises, including Assassin’s Creed. The AAA console editions are likely safe, but I wouldn’t count on anything else being fully protected from now on.

Assassin’s Creed
Assassin’s Creed is a highly successful multimedia franchise developed by Ubisoft, starting with the release of the first video game in 2007. The franchise is set in an open world and revolves around the centuries-old conflict between the Assassins, who fight for peace with free will, and the Templars, who desire peace through control. The games are known for their immersive historical settings, intricate narratives, and innovative gameplay that combines action, adventure, stealth, and parkour. Over time, Assassin’s Creed has expanded beyond video games into novels, comics, films, and upcoming TV series, making it one of the most influential and recognizable franchises in the gaming industry.
