The Steam Detective Fest has arrived with plenty of discounts for legendary puzzle games like Blue Prince, alongside plenty of demos for brand-new games to keep an eye out for. While there’s no shortage of highly rated games to try out for yourself ahead of release, one title from a much smaller studio is going relatively unnoticed by comparison.

While there are plenty of high-fidelity puzzle games or mysteries with darker undertones, sometimes the most enjoyable gameplay experiences can come in much simpler-looking packages. Inspired by a plethora of mystery and puzzle properties ranging from the award-winning Blue Prince, Clue, Ace Attorney, and the Agatha Christie crime novels of old, Clue: Murder by Death is one interesting detective game that’s well worth checking out.

Clue: Murder By Death Is A Unique Detective Game

Playing through a classic murder mystery in a charming chibi art style, Clue: Murder By Death follows a classical murder-mystery filled with the twists and unreliable narration the genre is known for, incorporating key observations, interrogation, and deduction to root out the truth behind its events.

Murder By Death also offers a rogue-like style gameplay loop, as each run follows a 2-hour adventure with you and 2 other guests of your choosing with their own individual skills, clues, and biases that can affect your investigation results. Depending on which character you control, you might even miss vital clues or see things from a different angle than before, which could completely alter your perspective moving forward with the case.

With 10 potential suspects, 9,000 lines of dialogue, and over 160 different isometric rooms to explore, Murder By Death seems to pack an ambitious amount of content in it’s roughly 22-hours of playtime, with the full game being available on PC and consoles when it releases on February 13.

You Can Play Murder By Death’s Demo Right Now

Thankfully, if you don’t feel like waiting to try out Murder by Death for yourself or simply want to see if its gameplay style is enough to hook you into buying the full release, it currently has a free demo on Steam that you can check out in the meantime.

While Murder by Death‘s simple visual style and replayable gameplay loop might not be for everyone, there are plenty of references and subtle nods to classic detective franchises from across the ages, with promises that it will blend both dark humor and vintage charm in one humble package that fans of the genre will enjoy.

With multiple outcomes depending on your choices and complex character relationships, Clue: Murder By Death is definitely one of the more unique mystery games releasing in 2026 presentation-wise, but one that looks like it will be fun for players of all ages when it drops. If you like Blue Prince and/or Knives Out, you might just love it.
