Cyberpunk 2077 “Final Update” Leaves Gamers Divided

It’s incredible to look at Cyberpunk 2077 in 2026. When the game originally launched back in 2020, who could have predicted that we’d actually be celebrating the fifth anniversary of Cyberpunk 2077, instead of just awkwardly squirming at the memory of a game that seemed dead on arrival?

Over years of updates and a genuinely excellent Netflix spinoff, plus a bunch of comics, Cyberpunk 2077 has established itself as very much here to stay. It’s so beloved now, in fact, that fans are terrified of when to expect the game’s final major update.

When Is Cyberpunk 2077’s Next Big Update?

You might be waiting a while

It’s important to note that, at the time of writing, Cyberpunk 2077 has had its last major update. Released back in July, Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.3 added a ton of new vehicles, side jobs, customization options, and a slew of new features for the game’s Photo Mode. Mind you, this was released after we were told not to expect any more major updates.

In fact, CD Projekt RED has been telling us they’re done adding substantial new content to Cyberpunk 2077 since the game-changing 2.0 update back in September 2023. That was followed by 2.1 in December of the same year that added in a bunch of immersive open-world features. After that, we got 2.2 one year later, an update with a huge focus on customization options for V, their apartments, and their vehicles. That was supposed to be the last update until 2.3 came along.

You can understand, then, why gamers aren’t exactly convinced we’ve had our last big update for Cyberpunk 2077. While most of CD Projekt RED are either working on The Witcher 4 or Cyberpunk 2, a smaller team has been handling the last few updates for Cyberpunk 2077.

“I’m sure we’ll keep getting small bonus updates and QOL fixes until the next game comes out,” one Reddit user wrote in response to the question of the game’s final, final update. “We’ve already had two past any support that we were expecting. Once Orion is out though, I think all support will be done.”

Another agreed: “There will be more updates, most certainly. I would put money on a content release when the next season of Edgerunners comes out. Otherwise, I think we can look forward to a small update each year that expands on simple things like clothes, or the crystal coat system being expanded to weapons/clothes.”

    Cyberpunk 2077 Is Going Nowhere

    Night City is never finished

While nothing has been confirmed, I think it’s more than fair to expect Cyberpunk 2077 to return in some form before the sequel launches. Heck, a new paid expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been all-but officially announced at this point, and that game was released a decade ago.

In summary, then, Cyberpunk 2077 will have its final update one day. But it is almost certainly not this day. Wake up Samurai, there’s a whole lot of city left to burn.
