Daniela Melchior Gives Disappointing Update On Ratcatcher’s DCU Return, 4 Years After The Suicide Squad

Four years after the release of The Suicide Squad, Daniela Melchior gives a disappointing update about Ratcatcher 2’s DCU future. Ratcatcher II is a member of the titular squad and several of her teammates have gone on to appear in the “Gods and Monsters” chapter of the DCU.

In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Ash Crossan for Anaconda, Melchior was asked if she has heard anything about Ratcatcher 2 being in future DCU projects. While Melchior does not share any confirmed return plans, she emphasizes that she would love to reprise the role and possibly play “a more grown-up version” of the character. Check out her comments below:

ScreenRant: We first met when you were doing The Suicide Squad.

Daniela Melchior: That was my first project in the States!

ScreenRant: Have you heard if we’ll see Ratcatcher again?

Daniela Melchior: I don’t know. I’d love to go back. I’ve grown so much as a person and an artist. My accent’s still thick, but not as much as before. It would be interesting to see if James Gunn would want a more grown-up version of Ratcatcher. I try not to think about it too much so I don’t get sad.

ScreenRant: I think he loves that character.

    Daniela Melchior: Me too.

Christopher Smith/Peacemaker (John Cena), Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), John Economos (Steve Agee), Weasel (Sean Gunn), Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), and Rick Flag Jr. (Joel Kinnaman) are among the characters from The Suicide Squad who have appeared in the DCU.

Smith, Harcourt, and Economos are all main characters in Peacemaker season 2, and the deceased Flag appears via flashbacks and in an alternate dimension. Weasel is a member of the eponymous team in the animated Creature Commandos series, where Economos and Waller also appear, and Smith has a cameo in Superman.

Despite there being no confirmed plans for Ratcatcher 2’s return, it is still possible that she will come back, especially with so many other characters from The Suicide Squad already playing important roles in the early stages of the DCU.

Just as Smith has grown a great deal from The Suicide Squad to Peacemaker season 2, Melchior is interested in exploring Ratcatcher 2 maturing as well. He is a drastically different character than the individual who killed without question in Corto Maltese, and there is similar potential with Ratcatcher 2.

The next show and film releasing in the DCU are Lanterns and Supergirl, both of which are slated for 2026, followed by the Superman movie sequel Man of Tomorrow in 2027. While it is possible that Ratcatcher 2 could make a surprise appearance in one of these projects, it is more likely that she will return in another story further down the line.

The opportunity for Ratcatcher 2 to return and reunite with Smith and other characters from The Suicide Squad would undoubtedly be met with a great deal of excitement. She remains a fan favorite from the 2021 movie and has the potential to develop more as the DCU continues to expand.

Anaconda releases in theaters on December 25.
