DC’s New Shared Universe Is Officially Fixing A 19-Year-Old Justice League Problem

While the DCU is attempting to fix the fractured fandom of DC Comics, there is another DC Universe being set up stealthily in the background, which could fix a much more enduring issue around the Justice League. DC Comics is full of fascinating characters, but the Justice League is on another level.

The Justice League stands tall as one of the oldest depictions of a superhero team, and one that is filled with iconic characters from the comics. But it’s been some time since a worthwhile adaptation has been made, but that could be set to change sooner than expected.

My Adventures With Superman Is Now Part Of A Larger Universe

In 2023, My Adventures with Superman delivered a brand-new animated exploration of the life and times of Clark Kent as he tried to grow into his role as Superman. And now, with season 3 confirmed, Clark has come a long way.

However, the surrounding universe is also set to expand as a new spin-off series set in the same universe has been announced. My Adventures with Green Lantern is set to introduce Jessica Cruz as a young student who finds the power ring and is chosen to become the next Green Lantern.

And since the show is set in the same universe, it seems highly likely that there will be crossovers in the near future.

DC Hasn’t Had An Animated TV Universe Since Justice League Unlimited

This opportunity presents fresh hope for a DC animated universe, similar to the DCAU, which hasn’t had an animated series as part of its shared universe since 2006, when Justice League Unlimited ended. The DCAU has lived on in animated feature films made for streaming and TV, but the connectivity hasn’t always been there.

Since 2006, there have been a handful of DC shows, and some have become incredibly popular, such as Harley Quinn, and Young Justice. However, they have all been standalone stories.

And even the recent release of Creature Commandos is not a part of a dedicated animated universe, but actually woven into the wider live-action DCU.

My Adventures With Green Lantern Should Be The First Of Many Spinoffs

With My Adventures with Superman branching out and creating a sister series in My Adventures with Green Lantern, it opens the door for some interesting possibilities.

This could end up being the foundation for a new DCAU, with the Justice League appearing down the line, similar to how Batman: The Animated Series led to the creation of the connected Justice League Unlimited.

And while that dream might still be a little way off, the fact that the story is being primarily explored in a TV format means it could overtake the DCU to establish the Justice League.
