After winning hearts with his performance in the horror-comedy Munjya, Abhay Verma is now gearing up for a massive leap in his career. Abhay is set to share screen space with Shah Rukh Khan, in the upcoming film King, directed by Siddharth Anand.
Abay expressed how this project has been a dream come true moment for him. The actor has long been vocal about his admiration for the superstar, and in a recent interaction, he shared the emotional experience of finally meeting his idol.
Speaking about the opportunity to work with Shah Rukh Khan, Abhay described the experience as a significant life milestone. In fact, he joked that the moment felt so surreal that it felt like he had reached a personal retirement stage because he couldn’t have asked for anything more from God.
Sharing his deep respect for Shah Rukh, Abhay told ABP News, “He is obviously the King. And honestly, I admire him not just as an actor, but as a teacher. He represents the best of our youth, someone we can look up to. I have always placed his work on a pedestal, and for me, he holds the stature of a god. I respect him deeply.”
Abhay admitted that before the meeting, he was very nervous. He revealed that he had spent years imagining what it would be like to simply be noticed by the star. He shared, “In the beginning, I had this jittery feeling thinking, ‘I hope one day Shah Rukh sir knows that a guy named Abhay Varma exists.’ At the very least, I wanted him to know my name or maybe just see me once.”
However, the reality of the meeting exceeded his expectations. Abhay recalled how Shah Rukh Khan’s warmth and humility immediately broke the ice. He added, “When I actually met him, when he hugged me and asked how I was, and asked if I travelled comfortably, it felt like I had reached my personal retirement stage, I couldn’t have asked for more from God.”
Despite Shah Rukh Khan’s global icon status, Abhay mentioned how he goes out of his way to make his co-stars feel comfortable. He mentioned that while on set, SRK never carried the weight of his stardom. He shared, “When I would go back to my hotel, then it used to feel like as if I had met Shah Rukh Khan. But when I was sitting with him, talking to him, he never made you feel like he’s Shah Rukh Khan. He made it feel like you were meeting a friend.”
