Jimmy Kimmel wasted no time addressing Donald Trump’s “hateful and vile” response to Rob Reiner’s and Michele Singer’s deaths during the opening monologue of his late-night show on Monday.

“This is the kind of weekend that makes you wonder if anything will ever feel good again,” Kimmel said to kick of his remarks about Reiner, who he described as “one of our greatest directors and patriots.”

“What we need in a time like this is compassion and leadership, we did not get that from our president because he has none of that to give,” Kimmel continued. “Just when you think he can’t go any lower, he somehow finds a way to do that.”

After reading Trump’s Truth Social post which falsely suggested that Reiner had died from “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” Kimmel added: “Its so hateful and vile, when I first saw it I thought it was fake. Even for him that seemed too much, but nothing is too much for him.”

“That corroded brain is in charge of our lives. If you voted for that, it’s okay to reconsider. It’s perfectly fine.”

Kimmel concluded by noting: “I know from my personal interactions with Rob Reiner, he’d want us to keep pointing out the lonesome atrocities that continue ooze out of this sick and irresponsible man’s mouth, and we’re going to continue to do that until the rest of us wake up.”
