Spaceballs 2 gets a major production update from Josh Gad. He is a co-writer, producer, and one of the stars of the long-awaited sequel to Mel Brooks’ 1987 Spaceballs movie.
On Facebook, Gad confirmed that Spaceballs 2 has wrapped filming. He makes reference to the first film, saying “It really was Ludicrous speed” as he reflects on the creative process and this important milestone. Check out the post below:
Gad reflects on how he contacted Brooks three years earlier about the project and was stunned that the acclaimed filmmaker agreed to it. Brooks returned to produce and star in the film, with the director having played Yogurt and President Skroob in the first installment.
Josh Greenbaum directs the sequel, with Gad calling him “one of the greatest directors I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing.” He also thanks the entire crew, the other co-writers, Amazon MGM Studios, and the rest of Spaceballs 2‘s cast.
Returning alongside Brooks in the sequel are Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, Rick Moranis, and George Wyner. They reprise their original role, with Pullman as Lone Starr, Zuniga as Queen Vespa, Moranis as Dark Helmet, and Wyner as Colonel Sandurz. Since Rick Moranis stopped acting in movies decades ago, his return is particularly momentous.
Newcomers who joined the cast with Gad and who he mentions in the post include Keke Palmer, Anthony Carrigan, and Bill Pullman’s son, Lewis Pullman. Fittingly, the younger Pullman will play Starburst, the son of Lone Starr and Queen Vespa in the sequel.
