    Potential spoilers ahead for Landman

Taylor Sheridan’s returning western, Landman, has divided critics and the audience for its latest season on Rotten Tomatoes.

Landman season 2 arrived on Paramount+ on November 16, but reviews for the latest season have been largely mixed. Critics’ scores are currently at 81% while the Popcornmeter for audiences is at 35%. The audience has stated they were “disappointed” largely due to the “slow” and “boring” first episode. Critics, however, have praised the second season as “stronger than the first“.

Here is a table to demonstrate the difference between the audience and critics for Landman so far:

Landman, starring Billy Bob Thornton as Crisis Executive Tommy Norris, is a modern tale of fortune seeking in the world of West Texas oil rigs. Starring alongside Thornton are Demi Moore, Ali Larter, Michelle Randolph, Kayla Wallace, and returning Sheridan star Sam Elliot, who also had a role in Yellowstone’s prequel 1883.

Sheridan is currently making his exit plans due to a new deal with NBCUniversal and will continue working for Paramount up until late 2028. His shows, such as Yellowstone and Landman, will remain with Paramount, but as for their future, it’s unclear what will happen once Sheridan leaves.

Landman was a commercial success for Paramount when it was first released and had the best premiere for a Paramount original series, with over 6 million views worldwide within the first week. Creator Sheridan’s name being attached doesn’t hurt due to his long-running success with series such as Yellowstone, Tulsa King, and Mayor of Kingstown.

Clearly, critics and audiences are divided on Landman’s opening episode, but of course, the numbers will change more as each episode is released. One critic states, “Landman unfolds like a Texas-sized graphic novel—bold, mythic, and larger than life.” While an audience review completely disagrees, “Season two is off to a slow start.”

Arguably, Sheridan’s most successful series, Yellowstone, overall, has pretty level reviews from both audiences and critics, and collectively has a 76% rating from audiences with an 83% rating from critics. It’s clear Landman has yet to clear its name and redeem itself with later episodes, but only time will tell if Sheridan’s latest western adventure has a story worth telling.
