Doot doola doot doo: Interviewer extraordinaire Nardwuar the Human Serviette has been appointed to the Order of Canada for helping to “shape [the country’s] identity, while also earning a devoted global following through his distinctive interview style, tireless research, and support for rising stars and celebrated names.”
“I am honoured to announce that I have been appointed as a member to the Order of Canada. So humbled that people thought I was worthy of this honour and nominated me,” said Nardwuar in a video posted to Instagram. “I am in awe! Like, I can’t even explain myself, so I can’t imagine how people would explain me to the committee! Thank you! Also, a huge thank you to everyone for the incredible support all these years.”
He continued, “I would like to dedicate this Order of Canada to my late Mom, who taught me so much about history, local independent media, and the value of research. I know that she would be, like me, overcome with joy! Doot doola doot doo… Order of… Canada!”

Born John Ruskin, the 57-year-old Vancouver native is one of the rare appointees to be inducted under his stage name. Conducting his interviews in tartan attire, Nardwuar is known for his eccentric personality and surprisingly in-depth research.
Beginning in the ’90s, he interviewed celebrities including Nirvana, Blur, and Snoop Dogg before going viral on YouTube by impressing the likes of Pharrell, Cardi B, Tyler, the Creator, Steve Albini, Billie Eilish, and many more.
Other Canadians who were appointed to the Order of Canada this year include children’s singer Raffi and country artist Terri Clark.
