Netflix’s Gritty Bosch & Reacher Replacement Is Here

Netflix has found its perfect Bosch and Reacher replacement, which will beat both Prime Video detective series in one undeniable way.

While Netflix has only had a few major TV hits in the crime thriller genre, Prime Video continues to reign supreme by delivering one great dad show after another. With upcoming shows, like Bosch‘s prequel, Reacher season 4, and Cross season 2, Prime Video will seemingly continue dominating the genre. Interestingly, though, it looks like Netflix will soon start catching up with Prime Video.

The streaming giant is all set to release the first season of a thrilling book adaptation, which could stand shoulder to shoulder with Bosch and Reacher. Considering the adaptation’s source material, it already seems better than Reacher and Bosch in one major way.

Netflix’s Adaptation Of Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole Books Will Be Darker Than Reacher & Bosch

Netflix is adapting Jo Nesbø’s Harry Hole books that follow a brilliant but deeply flawed titular detective. The book series may not be as renowned as the Harry Bosch and Jack Reacher novels, but they have sold over 50 million copies worldwide. Interestingly, owing to his sheer size and reclusive tendencies, Harry Hole seems similar to Jack Reacher and Harry Bosch in more ways than one.

Like the two famous detectives, Hole, too, obsessively hunts down clues and follows his instincts into places most criminal investigators would never go to. However, what makes his stories far darker than Reacher and Bosch‘s is his self-destructive streak. He heavily depends on alcohol and struggles to deal with his strained relationship with his family.

Unlike Reacher and Bosch, Hole also finds himself dealing with some incredibly violent cases, which further push him into bleaker criminal territory. Reacher and Bosch, too, have their flaws and struggles, but Hole seems to descend far more willingly into darkness than his American counterparts. Since Jo Nesbø himself is the writer for the Netflix show, the TV adaptation of the books will undoubtedly capture these dark elements from the source material.

Owing to this, it is hard not to believe that Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole on Netflix will be far bleaker than Prime Video’s Reacher and Bosch.

Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole Can Be Netflix’s Perfect Response To Prime Video’s Reacher & Bosch

    Titus Welliver as Harry Bosch

The Jo Nesbø books are as acclaimed and widely appreciated as Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels and Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch series. Jo Nesbø has also written over 10 Detective Hole books, which gives Netflix enough source material for at least five seasons regardless of how it chooses to adapt. With the original author himself serving as the showrunner, Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole also seems to have a major edge over Bosch and Reacher.

Did You Know: Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole season 1’s filming primarily took place in Norway’s capital, Oslo, which makes it even more true to the source material.

Netflix’s take on Jo Nesbø’s books also has some promising actors, like Tobias Santelmann and Joel Kinnaman, as its leads, which further improves its odds of succeeding. If all goes well for the exciting Netflix detective show, it could serve as the streaming service’s perfect replacement for Reacher and Bosch.
