Netflix‘s new thriller movie led by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon is an instant streaming hit. Netflix is having a great 2026 despite the fact that January is only halfway done. Netflix original movies, such as the rom-com People We Meet on Vacation, and Netflix TV shows, like the thrillers Land of Sin and Run Away, have become successful.
The case of the last two shows how the streaming service is doing well for itself when it comes to thrillers. Now, that has been further proved by the fact that a new movie has instantly topped Netflix all over the world. The fact that The Rip‘s cast is led by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon certainly helps its success, but it’s not the only factor.
According to FlixPatrol, The Rip is now the most-watched movie on Netflix worldwide. Netflix’s new thriller has managed to surpass the streamer’s previous hit original movie, People We Meet on Vacation, with the rom-com based on Emily Henry’s novel now falling to the second spot. The documentary One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5, closes the top three.
The Rip is trending in a whopping 91 countries, making it a global streaming sensation. Damon and Affleck’s new collaboration has managed to lead Netflix’s Top Movies chart in no less than 85 countries, dominating the streaming service. Some of those countries where The Rip leads the charts are the United Kingdom, Brazil, Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and many more.
Nationwide, Netflix’s new action thriller is also a major hit. The Rip is the most-watched movie in the United States. While People We Meet on Vacation is also in the second spot in the US, there is a difference in terms of who takes third place between the global charts and the United States. Nationwide, that position goes to Suitcase Killer: The Melanie McGuire Story.
The Rip was released on Netflix on January 16, 2026, meaning it is already the most-watched movie on Netflix worldwide after a single day of availability on the platform. Aside from Affleck and Damon, The Rip‘s star-studded cast also features names like Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead), Teyana Taylor (One Battle After Another), Sasha Calle (The Flash), Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights), and more.
At the time of writing, The Rip boasts an 82% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie also landed positively with viewers, totaling a 72% audience score. In ScreenRant‘s The Rip review, Alex Harrison says, “The Rip is a good time when experienced on its wavelength, and worthy material for a relaxed night in.” No The Rip sequel plans exist.
